Seems like he will be a great floor general off the bench. I really like the way the Lakers built this team.

This feels like a futuristic move for the Lakers. Yeah he is old, but its got homework and analytics written all over it imo. LA needed a veteran in the backcourt that can distribute the rock.

I like this move since we need a couple of vets to team this young team some leadership. Yeah, he hasn't suited up in the NBA, but he's been a professional basketball player for a long time.

I think what it comes to is that Russell is going to have some games where BS will just have to pull him to the bench if he's not getting it through how to play or just doesn't have it that game.

Huertas is a steadying ship as a backup. He's all team. No I in him.

Much better than getting some D-leaguer point guard still trying to prove and doing too much.

Bye.

Despite the money mid-range game, Huertas’ long range game has been somewhat of a concern over the past few years--of which he’s shot between 32.8% and 36.5%. He’s got a little bit of an unorthodox push shot in spot-up situations, which might be something to monitor as it is a low release. The early 2010s really saw him scorching the nets from distance--from 40.1% to 44.9%--and that combined with his mid-range excellence really indicates that this can re-develop, especially with the added space that the NBA presents and the fact that he will have far less responsibility. We’ll see how this goes, but the safe bet should indicate at least a decent long range shooter.

Proper spacing might help. Calling MDA...

Can he play or is he a camp body?

Absolutely he can play. He's an excellent passer and can shoot the ball including from distance and shoots nearly 90% from the line. This gives the Lakers a very solid backup PG making the bench that much stronger in the back-court. He is a very solid pick-and-roll guard with really exceptional court vision. Great move by Mitch to help the Lakers be more competitive THIS year.

so I think we can kiss Jabari Brown goodbye?

DLO/Huertas
Clarkson/Lou Will
Kobe/ABrown/Young
Randle/Bass/Nance Jr/Kelly
Hibbert/Black/Sacre

14 right there. I put Black on the roster.

If we could find a spot for Kelly/Sacre would love to bring in Upshaw/Holmes or Frazier. Frazier brings a pure catch/shoot ability which we don't have much of at this point.

I think it could depend on training camp. If Brown continues to show potential, I could see Nance going to the d-league.

Doesn't matter. He's a guaranteed deal so he counts as part of the 15 man roster, even if he's playing in the DLeague.

Damn. The roster is really tight then. Sad, I think I'm one of the few brown fans who likes his potential. Would be sad to see him go to the d-league again or get cut if he continues to produce like summer league.

You have the "made" men (guaranteed deals): Sacre/Kelly

Non-guaranteed players: Black, Brown

Partial-guaranteed players: Holmes, Frazier

No contract: Uphsaw.

Apparently Heurtas is non-guaranteed. So I'm guessing minimum.

Hmm. Camp invite? One would think a vet like him would at least be able to garner a guaranteed minimum. Interesting.

I hear Lakers' deal with Marcelo Huertas is just a summer contract, non-guaranteed rookie minimum at $525k with limited injury protection

The plot thickens

Interesting. I still think he's making the 15-man roster...

Maybe they want to see if he can rediscover the 3-stroke. I don't think they need another midrange player.

I hope he makes the team.
His experience would be an asset to the young guys and it makes for a great story..
