*** CUTS COMING ***

Quote:
Although four preseason games remain for the Lakers, Coach Scott admitted on Sunday that roster cuts could start after the game against the Kings on Tuesday night at the MGM Grand Arena.

Quote:
Scott said this week he’ll soon begin trimming the Lakers roster to eventually get down to the league’s 15-player maximum.

That means Tuesday’s game against the Kings could be the last night for some members of the 19-man roster.

The team’s decisions could offer some insight into whether the organization truly views this season as a development year, or if it believes it still has a slim chance at the postseason.

Players such as World Peace, Ryan Kelly, Tarik Black and Robert Sacre offer more immediate help on the court. But would the Lakers be better off investing in Robert Upshaw and Jabari Brown to see what they become?

“I’m looking for the 15 guys that best fit the team,” Scott said. “It could be one guy is much better on the defensive end than another guy. It could also be the balance of the roster as well. It’s a few things I’ve really got to take a look at.”

The intrigue might have to wait. The first cuts could include undrafted rookies Michael Frazier and Jonathan Holmes, who have had limited opportunities to impress through four preseason games.

NOTES

Marcelo Huertas (strained right calf) is out against the Kings. … Brandon Bass (bruised left knee) and Roy Hibbert (sore right knee) are both probable.

Hamstring problems can be lingering issues. I think they're just playing it safe. And maybe he has a safe spot on the roster so they don't have to rush him?

Yeah but he needs to sync himself with the rest of the squad. So he needs to be out there and get some burn.

Anthony Brown's lack of numbers in the box score is pretty amazing to have played 32 minutes

Complete Roster Projections with Cuts Looming

Quote:
Only 13 players can dress for games, so that will factor in to how Scott shapes the final look of the team. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak made some savvy moves to shore up numerous areas of need in the offseason, so L.A. may be forced to demote or cut ties with several developing youngsters.

^Whoever wrote that article sounds like they've been out of the loop for several weeks, if not months. Nance Jr. gets cut but Jabari stays? Has he even watched a single preseason game so far? lol. Then you have this:

"Superior defense and basketball IQ are bound to give Williams a lot more minutes than the explosive but inconsistent Nick Young."

^What makes him think that Williams and Young are competing for backup 2 guard minutes? Young is gonna be backing up Kobe at the 3. That's why he and Williams have been able to play together during the preseason. This guy is just pulling things out of his dumper. Not even watching the games.

Anthony Brown is not a playmaker, he needs to sit there in the corners and hit three pointers. However nobody looks for him, and he becomes just a defensive player. He could be the Bruce Bowen type to hit that three like clockwork.

He is completely clueless if he thinks there's any chance Nance Jr will be cut.

Larry Nance Jr. will not be cut. His defensive versatility is needed on the current roster. When playing a small lineup, he provides good help defense to protect the paint.

Who would think Lou Williams has "superior defense" compared to Nick Young? That's absurd. Neither are great defenders, but Williams appears to be a particularly weak defender. This is especially true when preventing penetration. Many good PGs get around him somewhat easily.

He's also a #1 pick, meaning a guaranteed contract on the book for 2 years. Lakers cut him, they owe him for both years.

In my memory, Lakers have never done that, cut a rookie 1st round pick. Even if they like a non-guaranteed contract player a lot, it wouldn't come at the cost of Nance.

To me the guy that Mitch is trying to move is Young, but it won't be easy since Young is coming off a bad year.

It's FINALLY Official

Laker Hire Tracy Murray as Shooting Coach

Quote:
“I’ve known Tracy a long time, and he was one of the purest shooters I’ve ever seen,” said Scott. “I think he’ll be a benefit to our players, especially our young guys, and I look forward to working with him as a member of our staff.”

That would literally be the dream. Would love for that to happen instead of Metta taking a roster spot.

yet another .......

Los Angeles Lakers 2015-16 Season Preview ....

Quote:
After a couple of long, depressing seasons in LA, Lakers fans finally have something to look forward to this season. They’ll get a glimpse of what’s to come as the young core of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson showcase their talent. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said newly acquired Roy Hibbert has a chance to become a part of the Lakers’ core group moving forward should he have a bounce back year.

I would like to see Brown play with DLO or Marcelo. I don't even think he has taken an attempt when Lou is running point.
