We can not afford to lose games while our rookies get ready. If we do this we might have a chance of getting into 5-6 seed. People forget that defense is very important and hibbert, bass, upshaw, nance are all good D players.
I think that Huertas, Clarkson, Kobe, Bass and Hibbert starting is more likely. Let the youngsters adjust to the NBA against second stringers. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
With the added talent around him and reduced minutes I expect a more efficient Kobe who I think is still capable of being one of the best players in the league. Russell I think will a relatively smooth transition to the NBA. Just because of his skill set and basketball IQ. Randle should be able to operate well in the post and off the dribble. Expect Clarkson to pick up where he left off in his rookie season. Look for the Lakers to really push the tempo and use Clarkson's athleticism to get a lot of transition points.
Adding veterans like Lou Williams and Brandon Bass will also be a big help. Bass is a guy who has been on playoff teams. Been deep in the playoffs. Tough, hard nosed defender with the ability to rebound and hit the pick and pop shot. Williams is the reigning sixth man of the year. Paired with Nick Young who should be healthy this season we won't have any issues with scoring off the bench.
Roy Hibbert will instantly make the defense better. Will put us a lot less strain on the perimeter defense. He's so big and long there won't be nearly as many open lanes to the basket. Guards will think twice before taking it strong to the hole. Hibbert's ability to block and alter shots. Solid post defender as well. His issue is he's slow so we can't have him showing on pick and rolls. Randle or Bass when he's in the game have to be that guy.
Overall this is a young team so I don't see them making the jump from terrible to a playoff team in such a brutal conference, but they will make a lot of progress. Word about Durant looking at the Lakers as a possibility really gets me excited. I can see why he's intrigued. He would be the undisputed best player and leader. It would be his team, his show, but he'd also be leading a young group of very talented players and try to get them over the top.
What is the point of a season thread? Isn't that what game threads are for?
I mean I'll participate nonetheless
Game threads are for participating together during the games. This is a place to discuss how our season is going....our thoughts and opinions....throughout the season.

Kobe needs to let the youngers go to work. There's no reason the trio of Russell, Clarkson, Randle shouldn't avg 10 shots apiece. Kobe should only avg 15 shots this season. Might give him 20 on occasions if he's on fire. We need to play more like a team. These 4 guys can carry the offense while hibbert mans down the middle.
This game has been 2 years in the making. Finally get to see our young core and hopefully a healthy Kobe ball. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Who says that Russell and Randle are not ready? You're assuming things. It's not guaranteed that Williams and Bass would out perform Randle and Russell even though they are both rookies. I will leave it to the coach. He has his eyes on every practice.
Any team needs to gel, that'll take half a season. Then the Lakers are "Blessed" with a mess of rookies, that's going to take time as well.
This season is more about growing together but don't expect this to be a PO team, it's not. Not yet at least, give a couple of years... _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !

It was very encouraging to see Byron play the last 15 minutes with one ball handling guard and 3 bigs. Way to ensure you won't be able to run anything. Not that Scott showed much sign of actually running anything.
Regardless of this game's outcome; Sacre, Jabari Brown, Kelly, and Anthony Brown need to be released. For the love of god atleast the first three. Byron Scott's schemes and habits need to seriously be addressed or relieve him of his duties before next season. For the most part he's just a poor coach. Kelly still at the 3? Just one of many BS blunders.
Randle needs to stop rushing and start letting the game come to him. Hit that jumper or it's going to become even more noticeable and very ugly. He'll be the odd rookie out if there's any trade involving one. Clarkson needs to do nothing but work on his 3's, that's what's going to catapult him. Russell's recent little foot issue and dead legs = obvious short shots.
Having said that much, I expect Lakers to do none of what I hope
