What are yours?

Mine are the Daniel Craig/Rooney Mara "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and "Jack Reacher". Guilty pleasure pick is John Carter.

Update: it looks like Jack Reacher is getting a sequel.

I want movies I really like to do well at the box office, but I hardly ever want them to have sequels.

Haha. I saw that title and thought, "I'm going to be the only one that's going to say John Carter."

Looks like I'm not alone!

Yeah, it's nice to have good movies do well, so hopefully similar projects get the green light. But I hate the idea of box office driven sequels. There are a tiny handful of films (outside of comic book movies) that are worthy of a sequel no matter how good they are.

A great movie is one that stands on it's own. There's no reason to revisit the story. Obviously there is the rare exception (Godfather 2), but outside of those, sequels are a money grabbing waste of time.

No way. I love both films. But we need to see the prawn come back and "fix" the main character (Wikus). He needs to return to human form and make things right.
Freaking awesome Sci-fi film.

I think it did OK at the B.O. but was panned critically and by fanboys... but I really liked Prometheus and some of the ideas it played with and set-up. There is A LOT of explaining to do and a sequel is needed. After reading a reddit about a lot of the religious subtext involved and some of the footage that was left out, I am hooked. There were some huge plotholes and silly happenings in the film... but damned if it doesn't take the Alien mythos to a whole new level.

A sequel to District 9 would be epic.

I would have liked to have seen the Ghostbusters finish things off with a proper third film. (The PS3 game will have to fill that void)

I'd also like to catch back up with what/who's left of the cast of Jackie Brown (Qt's best and most underrated film IMO) AND I want a sequel to The Thing. Just because the movie is so badass and I got to know if McReady survives.

I really like this movie. Still can't figure out why it did so poorly at the movies. Would love to see a sequel someday

Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Equalizer, Big Trouble in Little China, Flight of the Navigator, Over the Top, Predator with Ahnuld, Office Space (maybe, wouldn't want to risk (bleep) it up though, however I have an infinite amount of faith in Mike Judge), (speaking of Judge...) Beavis and Butthead Do America, Napoleon Dynamite (same deal, I wouldn't want to risk (bleep) it up but (bleep) I would love to continue it someway, somehow, same with Groundhog Day but I know I''m only dreamin', not worth the gamble. My all time favorite movie is the G00nies however there's no way I would gamble with a sequel.

this movie was really good and surprising.

I know exactly why it didn't do well though: Marketing.
They marketed it all wrong. It's the reason I didn't see it in the theaters.. looked like a cheap star wars knock off.. little did I know that it was the inspiration for such great films.

Retreads, reboots, prequels, and sequels that really only just use the name recognition of the decent original, but otherwise aren't true sequels (American Psycho 2 with the female killer is an example) - those suck on GPs. Speaking of Psycho, there was that remake of Psycho as well, which had to be done because Alfred Hitchcock certainly screwed up the first one. 80s movies slash teen flicks usually have a bad connotation and yet the many current retreads with supposedly better production value, CGI, a new "serious" tone, etc have made the originals seem like classics. Too many to count. I just passed by the Footloose and Fright Night remakes on telly last week. Recently saw the Mad Max reboot. George Miller notwithstanding, I wasn't a fan. I know he had to "currentify" it, but it wasn't as good as the original 2. Road Warrior, matter of fact, is probably one of those few golden 2nd editions of a franchise, slightly better than the first in a lot of people's eyes. Thunderdome was already showing the slippage of the franchise back in 85. However, the original three Maxes were good shows because they didn't have that sequal feel even though they were. Rarely do 3 movies of a franchise seem different enough to stand on their own. The new one gave me that "ya can't go back home" feeling.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
was great. I felt the original was better but my judgement could be clouded because I saw it first.

As far as Jack Reacher...yikes. Hate to do the "I read the books" line to yah los cuase ou're my guy ...but yeah, Tom as Jack Reacher was utter horse (bleep). His lack of chemistry with Rosamund Pikes was palpable. Cringe-worthy really. That scene with vertically challenged Tom trying to face off against those thugs had me sliding down my seat. It's made 10x worse with the knowledge that Jack Reacher is supposed to be this hulking, ass kicking brute. I'm definitely not one of those people that always says the books are better eiter. Peter Jackson did a 10/10 jobwith the LoTR series for example . GoT has made some changes that in some ways has improved on what GRRM has done. Etc, etc.

(bleep) yeah!

My money is on a horrendous Goonies reboot, though, out of all of those listed. Jesus, that list makes me want to dig into my crate of childhood toys and bust out some M.A.S.K. figures. Mask crusaders son. Fighting crime.
