Now obviously our opinions will change as we see them all play but at this point I would probably cut:

Holmes
J. Brown
Sacre
Frazier or Kelly

I have always liked Sacre but we have some good centers now so it is time for him to go. Unfortunately he has a guaranteed contract! But hopefully he will still be waived.

I also really like Frazier but we have better players. R Kelly has shown flashes. Preseason should decide which of them goes

The Lakers often go with 14 players, instead of 15, though. So we may have to cut five players.

Who do you think will be cut?

Not that I particularly want to see these players go, but by process of elimination:

Peace
Kelly
Sacre
Frazier

Freaking tough choices here for the end of the bench. It is going to be a very very competitive training camp.

Waived: Sacre- IMO the biggest no brainer move

Cut: Frazier, Holmes- too much duplication of talent although both are good and should earn a spot on another team.

Mitch- wave the magic wand and amnesty/trade/waive Swaggy P.

The guy is not serious, he will wash out of the training camp within in a week if MWP is on the squad.

Kelly- keep him, our specialist stretch 4. We don't have another player with his skills. He was out of sorts last season at the 3, learning the damn Byron Scott offense. I still see a future for him, but this will be his last chance.

MWP- see above, main purpose on the squad is intensity on the defensive end which is needed on this team.

Jabari Brown can take Swaggy's bench volume shooter role along with Lou Williams. He can hit the 3 and he has no conscious, but seems to be a better team player than the Swagster.

Huerta will hurt us on D, but I think he has a great feel for the game and will help move the ball around for all of the scorers on the team.

I hope we can find a way to keep Holmes.

I really want Upshaw of course.

I understand Huertas/MWP.

Cut Kelly/Sacre for sure.

They won't waive Sacre, if they want him go, they could've let him go by not make his contract guarantee.

The rule says teams can waive 4 players that had been invited to camp and designed them to D-League without entering D-League draft, so I think Holmes, Frazier, Upshaw will go this way.

I think if Upshaw/Black outperform Sacre he will be cut. He gets his money.

His deal had to be done prior to free agency so that was sort of a no brainer at the time. But IMO Upshaw/Black is a no brainer over Sacre.

If Frazier shows he can shoot the 3 at a high clip he should be ahead of Huertas.

I doubt Holmes stays on considering we already have Randle, Black, Bass, and R.Kelly. My prediction for cuts is:

a. Sacre (Waived outright or traded)
b. Frazier (Waived)
c. Holmes(Waived)
d. Brown(Waived)

- With the options in the backcourt(D-Lo, Mamba, J-Clarkson, Lou) I can see Swaggy P being traded for a 2nd round pick or two.

Preference would be to waive
- Kelly
- sacre (only if upshaw beats him out)
- j. Brown
- Frazier

This is a pretty good bet.

Worth noting that Holmes received the highest guarantee of the prtially guaranteed guys. My guess is they expect him to stick.

Frazier and JBrown are competing for one slot, and if neither ipresses, both could go. Upshaw vs Sacre is another likely decision.

I keep seeing a lot of hate for Nick Young, and I think a lot of it is unwarranted.

Granted, he's not a stalwart defender. His primary role on any team is offense (scoring/shooting). On a balanced team, where he doesn't have to be a primary option, I think he can thrive. Last years team did, in no way, resemble a balanced team.

Also, with the 3 spot still being a bit thin, even with the signing of Metta, it would be foolish to release Nick, who can play both the 2 and 3. Kobe starting at SF, with Nick backing him up, is idea.

I have a feeling MWP won't make the team.

Sacre, Frazier, MWP, J. Brown are the ones won't make it imo.

Lakers probably like the potential of Upshaw, and they know Sacre isn't going to improve much...

Frazier and Brown are shooter and score....we have a lot wing scorers now. Need shooter, but have Anthony Brown need to develop. So I think both are out.

Last, probably down to MWP and Holmes, MWP is a great locker room guy but they might pick another young over vet this time.

how many young players we really need on this roster? and whats the potential of that young player?

holmes can play in the D league and get tons of playing time. Like J Brown we can bring him back whenever needed

Rookie:
DLO, Lance, A Brown, Upshaw must be on team
2nd yr: Clarkson, Randle, Black must be on team

so 7 1st/2nd yr players r enough

I prefer Metta teaching defense to Lance/Brown and randle

Interesting thought, Upshaw or Sacre competing for one slot. For a third string role, does it make more sense for the club to make the conservative move (Sacre, the warm body, good citizen, low upside) or roll the dice for the rookie. Can't imagine money plays into it.

If Upshaw and Holmes massively outplay Black, is Tarik still a lock?

I'm assuming Kelly is gone. Frankly they should just cut him now to let him try to catch on with another team.

This is how I see it breaking down...

Locks:

Hibbert, Black
Randall, Bass, Nance
Bryant, Young, Brown A.
Clarkson, Williams
Russell, Huertas

Preseason Elimination Match-ups:

Artest vs Brown J. vs Frazier
Kelly vs. Holmes
Sacre vs. Upshaw

Because I want Upshaw to develop... I'm in a minority and want Sacre to make the team. Black can play the 4... we only have 3 true big men.

Ditch Kelly over Sacre in my mind... have Sacre essentially play 1 on 1 vs Upshaw for a season in practice. Then let Sacre go... and have Upshaw ready to at least be the first big man off the bench next year.

FWIW, Sacre has a better RPM and WAR than Black, yet the conventional wisdom is that one is a goner and the other is a future building block.
