Clarkson.

Who? Clarkson has done nothing.

He played balls out in the most recent season. Kobe did not and we have no idea if he will next season. He will take a lesser role, even if it is just in MPG.

Actually i thought Kobe played pretty balls out last season, especially if you consider 11ppg balls out.

I guess citing numbers in a vacuum makes you feel safe, but the amount of context your post lacks is bigger than your love for Kobe.

Kobe is going to use this for bulletin board material, not that he doesn't have enough from his own fans and trolls talking (bleep) all summer. I think Kobe is going to play some good basketball this season.

Also there has been no one good enough to pass the keys to, Clarkson is decent but lets not get carried away just yet. Also I hope this greenfrog guy wasn't implying that Clarkson is somehow better than Kobe right now......

Hate Pierce and this jab is BS. If I thought the Clippers might win a Title I'd be more pissed, but they'll most likely be out in the 2nd rd as usual. That said Pierce did say Kobe was an Icon in basketball sometime this summer so i'll give him that...

Dude's just mad cuz Kobe is the king of LA, while nobody cares that Paul Pierce grew up in Inglewood, he's still regarded as the enemy since he played for the hated Celtics.

I remember Pierce on a pregame interview with either Sunderland or Billy Mac in the 94/5 season. He was asked about why he turned down an LA school for Kansas. Dennis Johnson grew up in Compton and still went to Pepperdine at least. PP ran out on LA from the get-go. He lost all his LA privileges. He expressed absolutely zero qualms about being taken by Boston and trying to win championships for them after he claimed he grew up a Laker fan with Magic as his supposed idol. I can however understand being professional and signing with the team that drafted you, especially because the league instituted a rookie salary cap that took away an incentive to move elsewhere for more money.

In 1992, four players were holding the teams that drafted them to the fire for various amount of time. Zo, who griped, but ultimately signed before the season began, Jim Jackson who held out on Dallas for more than 50 gms, Doug Christie who Seattle traded to us, and Jon Barry, who wouldn't accept Boston's offer. They had to trade him to Milwaukee. That was more difficult for Pierce to do even if he wanted to, but the thing is, he never even expressed the least bit of confusion about having to become a Celitc after repping Lakers. That's not exactly a hanging offense, but the hearts and minds of some Laker fans went "Pfft...". Like you said, no one gives a sh that he's from IngleWOOOOOD. It's like how no one cares that Reggie Miller played at UCLA and was a fan of and friends with Mag, Coop, and Scott. Young Reggie participated in some of those Midsummer Night's Magic charity games and pal'd around with those three. Sometimes a player's personality is too icky to be proud of.

I'm not known as a rabid defender of Kobe for other peoples' random, silly comments, so this coming from NPZ is somethin'. Kobefanatics, this is for you.

PP should mind his own damn biz. He doesn't run Kobe's kareer and doesn't have Kobe's kommitments. If Pierce wants to play 5 mins a game at age 45, that's his bag, baby. Kobe doesn't wanna be that guy. Pierce is essentially a coat tailer at this point of his career, regardless of whether he's traded to a new team every season, because it's gonna be teams that already have good talent before he gets there. There's little other reason to acquire him other than to play the role of the old man who takes big shots, a la D-Fish. Doc Rivers just wants to give those chokers a sense of safety with a sniper watching over them. To quote American Sniper: "They're invincible if they feel they're invincible." Him even saying that reminds me of John Elway bringing up Terry Bradshaw not approving of how he ran his own career (John and his camp let the Colts know he wouldn't play there and he used the baseball threat 3-4 years before Bo Jackson did). Bradshaw memorably said, "You should go play baseball. We don't need you. A guy like that will never win a championship."

Why does PP care about what Kobe's doing or how he's doing it? They're both old dudes with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. The difference is one been with his team for almost 20 years and still getting paid, while the other is ring chasing. But again, why is he pressed? Maybe he's still booty hurt over getting booed at the Dodger game, but Celtic stench don't wash off that easy.

*Bleep* this guy. And for the record Mr. Pierce, do not speak of or refer to Kobe under any circumstance until you acquire more accolades.

Putting cologne on top of funk...that's an easy way to clear out a room.

Easy for Pierce to say that when the Clippers have 2 HOFers who will carry him this season. Kobe has said numerous times that he will only pass the keys if he had another winning HOFer on his side, and Dwight doesn't count since he clearly didn't want to take on the responsibility. If we had Chris Paul, Kobe would have no problem taking the "reduced" role. Kobe obviously respects Paul very much and considers him a winner.

Exactly! Our FO can't sign any FA's so what are we supposed to do. I'm sure Kobe wouldn't taking a lesser role if we had someone to pick up the slack. How do we get the dippers out of L.A.? Can we all start a petition and send it to Ballmer?

It's a friendly jab by Pierce. I don't think people realize the level of understanding guys like Kobe and Pierce and Kobe/KG have, even if they battled multiple times in the Finals. Same with Tim Duncan. There's very few players of their generation remaining.

It's a lot easier for lesser players to accept taking a lessor role.

Doc and Paul have been trying to get over the Lakers for a while. Went 2-1 in LA's favor late 2000's. Doc put up that empty banner and embarrassed his entire org. Then he put the Clipper selfies over the Laker banners not recognizing those belong to the city, not the team. Strike two.

Now the Clips are loaded. Legit contenders. Easy time to go for round three. We'll see how that turns out though. There at their apex and the Lakers are back on an upward arc. The gap is still pretty wide but its closing.

It will be extra sweet watching Doc fail with the Clippers. They aren't winning it all.

Not even close.

He had a very good rookie season, but one good season doesn't make him better than Kobe.

I know a part of him, the younger version of himself, is ashamed that he was a Boston Celtic. The Inglewood Paul Pierce is shaking his head.

Not close? We're talking about right now. If you want to shift this into a career comparison then that's another topic, a silly one no one would even bring up.
