Essentially killed the momentum we gained back at the end of the 3rd.
He went Riley from Boondocks. |

Randle, Clarkson, and Russell should be getting at least 30 minutes every single game. |

There's no reason to play the veteran Lou Williams more minutes than the young guys who need to develop and get experience. Bass should not get more minutes than Randle either.

Also, please remember that this is basically Randle's rookie year. |

It will take a big revolt from the fanbase. He is so protected by all of his former teammates and coworkers in the local media. |

Lets start it. Other Laker fans will blame Byron quicker than Randle, or Russell. So it might not be that far. |

Byron must think he's Phil since he's not getting up in their ears, coaching his players and letting them run the offense like they're veterans who know the offense well.

Yep. This is the kind of thing that can really hurt a pre-season bid.
Then he got a 2nd chance to start the 4th and he did WORSE... not just worse.. but when he got the ball stolen and the guy was on the ground he stood and watched the ball instead of going to get it and a member of the Jazz walked up behind him and took it cause the play was still going on.
THAT is the kind of thing that can get you put in the dog house with Scott in a hurry. |

That's not that difficult. James Dolan had the biggest fetish in the world for Isiah Thomas as coach and Knicks fans would chant literally EVERY GAME "FIRE ISIAH!" *clap clap, clap clap clap* (rinse and repeat).
We can do the same thing with Scott. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

Way too much lagging on my feed for me to post live - as expected a VERY sloppy game. The Lakers missed an awful lot of very easy short range shots, and even still showed at moments they could take over the game. Lots of potential. Unrealized, for now.
I was all prepared to say don't pin this loss on Scott, these guys are young and it's a first preseason game. We KNEW it was going to be sloppy..... But the fourth quarter changed my mind. Not that we lost it, but it's how we lost it, and the way that Scott decided to dick around with the lineup in absolutely asinine ways.
The worst stat of the night is that Upshaw saw zero playing time.
Russell and Clarkson each had moments, they're both legit and they'll get much, much better. Randle - terrible night for him. He's got a lot to review.
Lakers had a hard time corralling Gobert and Favors, so I can see why Scott might have wanted to see Black play a tiny bit of 4. But why stick Kelly at the 3 if you're going to do that?
And again... why SO much Sacre and no Upshaw??
Ugh. The win-loss doesn't mean squat, but the lineups do matter.
Give Upshaw a shot, and for crying out loud I thought Scott was done with Kelly at the 3. |

We have good shooters on the team.
However, the lack of an actual offense is the problem. Lots of players standing around, too much isolation, taking contested shots, etc.
The very first offensive play that happened, THE VERY FIRST, was a pick and roll set by Randle, and Russell passing to Randle for the easy dunk.
...and then we never see it again. What the (bleep)? This is something we should do literally ALL THE TIME! Warriors do high screen pick and rolls literally ALL THE TIME! That is the kind of offense the Lakers should also run, every time. Players moving around, forcing the defense to move and respond, getting more open looks.
Yet we saw almost none of that. Just that very...first...play. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

30th) Sixers
29th) Nuggets
28th) Lakers
Prediction after 1 pre-season game, unfortunately this will hold up after 82 regular season games. |

What I took from "offense" that we did run in the first half (the only half that mattered in this game).
1st unit: Lots of easy shots, swing passes, open opportunities. Need to hit them.
2nd unit: Instant offense.
I liked the defense from both units tbh. |

This was the team's first time ever playing an actual game together against competition.
It's going to take a while for them to get their timing down and to gel into a cohesive unit.
However there is no excuse for that 4th quarter debacle. It was a dismal display of basketball by the players & coaches. |
