Oh please. The Pirates were classless aholes tonight. So breaking out any attempt at playing the "perennial" loser sympathy card on their behalf when they lost to the Cubs, who epitomize post season woes, is ridiculous. |

Actually a Dodger fan, so I could care less....but I know the Pirates were mediocre for the longest time... |

I feel bad for fellow Bruin Cole in his debut. But he's got a heck of a career lined up for him.

Easy now, you guys are more than welcome to keep the perennial loser tag for as long as you want. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Retired. Just kidding.
Yadier is the most important player on that Cardinal squad, and it is reported he might be ready to go. It won't be easy but beating the Cubs is almost expected in St. Louis, they have been doing it for almost a century. This one won't be easy but if Yadier can go, I like the Birds chances. All the injuries they have fought through this season has made me doubtful they can win the WS, but beating the Cubs is a must. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

David Price is close to losing his 6th start in a row in the postseason. Wow. He won a game in the playoffs before-as a relief pitcher, and he didn't even pitch one inning in that game.
To be fair, he got some lousy run support, but he usually didn't pitch well either. |

He looked like (bleep).
Yeah we should have totally given up Urias for him for a 3 month rental. Can't be re-stated enough...come playoff time, the rosters in place on any given team is enough to get it done. It's just a matter of a couple of bats catching fire and the pitching holding firm. Zero guarantees. |

I wonder if it is just injuries or if Tulo is just on a cold streak |

Not sure but Tulo has been batting a pedestrian .239 in a hitter's paradise since being traded to Toronto. Must be something in the air. |

It happened. Price is 0-6 as a starter in the playoffs. |

This can't be stated enough. If you have an arm catch fire like Bumgarner last year, you can ride it to a victory with timely hitting. It's the same with Hockey and a goaltender going insane. Both sports where anything can happen once you get to the playoffs. |

Or like with Flacco and the Ravens; the Mavs and their 3pt shooting. As a fan, I enjoy the inherent randomness in MLB and NHL playoffs. On the other hand, the stability in the NFL and NBA makes for intense matchups between top-flight teams (think about all the times the Lakers and Spurs played). |

Both road teams take game 1 and now the Blue Jays and Royals are in trouble.
I think the division series is too short but the baseball playoffs might take too long if they expand these series to best of 7 series. Last year the top seeded teams in each league were knocked out in the first round. |

Yep. 2014 Giants are literally the perfect case study.
#10 in the majors in pitching. #12 in the majors in offense. Basically above average pitching and barely above average offense.
Lost in the euphoria of Bumgarner channeling Orel, Hunter Pence hit .444 while Sandoval hit .429 in the WS. I actually felt Hunter could have just as easily been the MVP in the WS but Bumgarner's game 7 save basically clinched it. In any event, Buster Posey, their MVP/best player hit .154.
I mean ffs, in game 1 last year, AJ Ellis of all people went 4-5 with 3 runs and 2 rbis while Clayton in veritable God-mode all season fell apart with a MONSTER lead in the 7th inning. That's baseball for yah. |

I saw a graphic during a game when he got hurt where the Cards record with and without him was massive. |

Pitching gets magnified in the post-season. The rotations shorten in the hope that your big arms will pull you through. When someone like Price or Kershaw lays an egg, it really hurts.
The Astros are playing loose, which is refreshing. The Biggio/Bagwell era Astros always tightened up in the playoffs, at least until the last couple years. It was sort of chilling to see Smoltz in the press box last night. The Braves were playoff kryptonite for the Astros back in those days.
I think the Blue Jays are in bigger trouble than the Royals, though. The Royals have been through the playoff wars before, so they'll shrug off a Game 1 loss. They know they have the better team. On the other hand, the Blue Jays seemed a bit unnerved. |

Rangers lead the Jays 6-4. Astros lead the Royals 4-2.
So far every road team has won which includes the wild card games. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Anything goes in the MLB playoffs....pretty hard to predict which teams can get hot and go all the way. |

Yeah. Not sure what the numbers show, but I don't think HFA means much of anything in MLB. |

Royals won the game so they are the first home team to win in the playoffs so far. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |
