I would cut Sacre, no matter what. He simply can't be in our roster.

"What if Upshaw (bleep) things up?". "What if Black doesn't become a decent Center?". Well, then let's go after someone else! Really, it's not that hard to find something better than Sacre.

Agreed!

Black has game, I think that Utah is a bad match up for him though because of Gobert. Dude is just way to big for Black to handle. Against most of the league with their small ball centers Tarik will be fine.

Or just not play your starting center the entire 4th for some ridiculous reason. There's plenty of time to get a good gauge of these guys, but only if you use that time wisely. I don't know what Byron's doing.

I am hoping that there is a method to BS's madness. I am hoping that BS is giving the minutes to Sacre now so that he plays his way off of the team. He has the guaranteed contract, so Sacre needs to prove how bad he is to make the Lakers eat that money. So far Sacre is doing just that.

I think B Scott said he was going to play the guys he needed to get a better look at first and as the pre season went on he would start tightening up his rotations. I think this bodes well for upshaw, And Holmes because it looks like sacre is getting every opportunity to show the coaching staff something and he just hasn't. I don't think we will see much more of him from here on out.

My prediction is that

Sacre and Kelly have been losing their position battles and that's why they have been playing so much. This is a logical assumption considering they are both much older players that bring limited skillsets and upside to the table than upshaw or Holmes. On the other hand upshaw and Holmes are both two way players that bring the same skillsets to the table as sacre and kelly but also the ability to impact to game on both sides of the floor.

Sacre and Kelly are out
Upshaw and Holmes are in

Jabari and Frazier are out

I think metta and huertas are in

Russell/huertas
Clarkson/Williams
Kobe/young/metta/brown/Holmes
Randle/bass/nance/
Hibbert/black/upshaw

My other prediction is that Holmes, nance, and upshaw are on the inactive list and spend most of their time with the defenders. Brown will be called up and down also because playing time will be limited for him in the reg season.

We're pretty close, except I think Kelly has used his shot and impressed.

Not a done deal, but I believe Kelly has moved up the list from almost certain cut to battling for a spot. And in some ways, I think he is either cut or part of the rotation.

I can see that too but when his shot isn't on he brings almost nothing else to the table. At least with Holmes you get defensive versatility, upside, and someone who can actually play small forward without struggling. I really think Holmes is giving Kelly a run for his money.

There's two parts to my answer:

First, Kelly is doing some stuff on defense (within the scheme), and also putting the ball on the floor effectively, so he's ore than just a shooter.

Second, I don't viw this as those two head to head. Both may make the team. I view it as Sacre, Black, Holmes, and Kelly looking at two spots (assuming Upshaw shows out)

When Scott doesn't play Kelly at SF he's impressed me so far. I'd take him over Sacre all day.

I kept going back to the season with MDA. Kelly has game as a big.

Indeed. He showed a good deal of promise during his rookie campaign - enough to have many of us pencil him in as a viable rotation big. If Byron has the sense to keep Kelly at the 4/5, then I think he's going to remind of us all of the promise he showed during his rookie season.

I have to admit I'm jacked that we have to cut guys with NBA skills vs trying to fill the roster with fringe bodies like last year.

He def has some game. It will be interesting to see which players make the roster. The only two that should be in concrete is upshaw and sacre swap. I think sacre has over stayed his welcome in Los Angeles

I support cutting Sacre because we have better fits and upside guys, but at the same time, I don't think he overstayed. I think he did his job at a time when it didn't really matter much who the deep bench was.

In fairness, he may just be containing his hair as he grows it out, and he may burst into flames in direct sunlight.

He's trying to channel Sasha. He may not always be effective, but Kelly is going to make sure that someone is annoyed. It doesn't matter if it's the opposing team or the Laker fanbase.

Cut Black, Sacre... useless.
Pick up a vet center that can play 15 to 20 minutes a night.

the frustrating thing is overplaying nick and sacre, when we could have been assessing holmes and upshaw
