The pacers and the cats have both employed a similar tactic in defending the lakers. they double kobe immediately when he posts up on the wing. they send a 2nd man to harass him anytime he gets the ball.
this forces kobe to pass the ball out to the open man.. as everybody wants, and as he should.
however, the roleplayers are so pathetic that they cannot possibly hit even wide open shots.. shots that could not possibly be easier.
is management paying attention to this?
do they not realize that without a consistent 2nd option, the lakers are going to continue losing to sorry teams?
this is just getting sad.. if the lakers lose to the worst team in the league, it's can't be blamed on simply being tired anymore. that's just scary bad. |

My god. Watch the game and look at the score.
It's NOT offense tonight. It's the DEFENSE. Poor defense ....
They have scored 50+ points. They have shot the ball at 45% and have 13 assists.
Defensively they are getting scored on at 50% FG's and over 60% on 3 pointers. They have allowed Felton and Knight to tally up 9 assists with EASE. You must pressure guards and they are not doing that.
The defense is unacceptable. If anything, you rape these role players for the poor defensive games they are bringing in the 1st qtr of games. |

one of the reasons why our defense is struggling cause were taking so many outside shots in the first quarter. When we brick, they lead to fast break oppurtunities. Our open court defense sucks.
We just have to keep attacking the basket. We did that in the second quarter(when kobe came in) and bobcats couldnt hit nothing. _________________ Pain is temporary, at the end of pain is success... |

I have honestly never seen a team in the NBA that didn't have more players than one who could hit wide open shots. This is amazing and then some BSPN national idiot will rip Kobe for shooting too much. |

I knew this was going to happen. Teams will make adjustments to counter Kobe's greatness. It is up to our teammates to step up.
So far they are 0-2. |

Management has left gaping holes on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. If this game doesn't behoove management to make some movers, nothing will. And it will probably be nothing. You don't "stand pat" with duds. Unless you are just employing Kobe to sell tickets....... _________________ "Why do you think bad things happen, anyway???" the 81 point game was the worst thing that happened to this team. ever since then, teams have been doubling kobe harder and harder. they're challenging the rest of the laker squad and nobody's really responding (except for mihm, maybe). wow, can't believe i said that last part.
btw, can't fully blame mitch for not getting artest. that was mostly old man buss' fault. he wanted nothing to do with artest. he's pretty removed from the team now and figured any (likely) trouble with artest would drag him back into the day-to-day operations. also, he wasn't gonna give up two of his favorite lakers: odom & bynum.
btw, mgt is employing kobe AND phil to sell tickets (better said, to keep season ticket holders from revolting). in fact, the biggest trouble with this team now IS mangement: kupchak is a mediocre gm at best, kupchak and pj don't communicate, pj's suspicious of kupchak's motives and scouting is poor, especially international.
worse yet, dr buss has been the driving force of the franchise for the last few decades and now he's more or less removed himself from the organization. however, the power (and main decisions) still lie in his hands. in other words, the power rests in the hands of a man who's no longer fully involved while his heirs/subordinates are forced compromise their vision(s) by continuing to defer to dr buss' authority. |

bingo. it's not so cut and dry, offense and defense.
bad offense leads to bad defense.
if they hit some outside shots, the cats are unable to leak out, as well as put some points up on the board.
good offense is sometimes a good defense in this case. |

It most certainly was the offense. Yes the defense was horrible. But you can't say it wasn't the offense as well. Take away Kobe and Smush's production and the rest of the team shot 29.5%. AND MANY OF THOSE WERE ON WIDE OPEN SHOTS. That's pathetic! |

You took the words right out of my mouth. I'm sure George and Cook's missed freethrows didn't affect the game at all  (Sarcasm) |

Everytime Kobe got the Lakers close with his offense and defense (steals) our pathetic role players either clanked wide open shots or choked on f-ing free throws!!! Kobe shot over 60% with 2 or 3 guys in his grill and the rest of the team couldnt hit the side of a barn. I hate this team. |

^ Yeah, and Luke had to be on drugs or something. How many times did he not pass the ball to Kobe in early offense situations? A few of those stupid decisions were so horrible I can't even come up with a coherent way to say how bad they were. I mean do you even have to think about what to do with the ball when Kobe is spoting up for a wide open 3 in the 4th quater and you're trying to make a come back? How hard is that? This is not rocket science. Kobe was totally frustrated and Phil was beside himself. |

terrible in-game adjustments. once it became obvious that no one was going to make an outside shot off kobe's double-teams they should have made a concerted effort to get mihm the ball down low. why they even bother to throw kwame the ball anymore is beyond me. |
