Calderon is no better than Rubio and Rodriguez
I am amazed with the vision that you all have of Calderon. He is an average player, nothing more.
he is an expirer for all i care
I think Calderon will exceed expectations coming off the bench. He said so himself that he was getting a little to old to start any longer. His best spot is to come off the bench for 20 minutes. He is a damn good player when he is able to give it his all. I will welcome his shooting for sure. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss
I think some of you are overthinking this signing.
Huertas is the 3rd string PG on a minimal contract. I doubt he breaks 8 mpg this season unless there is an injury. Would not be shocked to see him in a suit on most nights.
Russell and Calderon will take up the majority of the PG mins.
Huertas' value will be in practice. He passes the ball. He has a very good understanding of the game and ball movement. Having those qualities working on the practice floor and on a limited basis will help the Lakers in the long run.

Yup. As a 3rd PG, not a problem at all. Maybe his passing/playmaking rubs off on DLO (Calderon can also help teach him too). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Now that Marcelo Huertas‘ two-year deal with the Lakers is official, Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders has provided the specific details on Huertas’ contract. The point guard will earn $1.5MM guaranteed this season, then has a $1,567,500 non-guaranteed salary on the books for 2017/18.

The contract in itself is very dirt cheap, that if I had to guess the Lakers would waive him or cut him at any moment if they had a player coming in from a FA signing or trade, the contract is very favorable in terms of flexibility.

Very nice contract. Love that it's non-guaranteed as opposed to a team option. Same with Calderon's.

Brazil beats Spain led by our very own Frodo!
Honestly that is impressive. I know Brazil has the home field advantage, but this guy, our 3'rd string PG, is the starter on an Olympic team that just beat Spain. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss
Calderon has been a nba player for a long time, Frodo played only 1 year lol. this is one of the few strange reasons that make you think he's worse than Calderon.
Huertas and Brazil fall to Argentina in double overtime.
Quote:
The atmosphere was simply electric from the moment fans arrived; so much so that Luis Scola and Marcelo Huertas spoke to the crowd before the game and encouraged the fan bases to exhibit sportsmanship throughout the game.
Brazil, which led by as many as 10 points in the second half, had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but Marcelinho Huertas missed a short jumper at the buzzer.
Argentina came away with a wild double-overtime 111-107 win in front of one of the rowdiest crowds in the entire Olympics.
It was a great game from Huertas. The defeat has nothing to do with any errors from him. On the contrary, Brazil began to go wrong when he went out with foul trouble.
See the chemistry he's got with Bass, Black and Young even. The guy is really a table setter, stuff like this you really see how easier he made it for some guys on those plays.
Pretty sure there isn't a 2nd or 3rd unit that could guard Lou Williams either
Besides you'll have
Deng/Ingram
Nance Jr
Tarik Black/Zubac
At the 3/4/5 which is pretty solid defensive backup for the 1/2 situation
You've got to exert some defensive pressure from the guard spots and our likeliest best guard defender is DLO. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

And he'll be in the 1st unit
While the 2nd unit will be backed up defensively by Ingram/Deng as well as Larry Nance Jr and Tarik Black. So that's pretty good defensive backup for going against 2nd units, and in the 1st unit we have Russell and even still Deng or Ingram at the 3 and Mozgov at the 5. So we have some nice defensive spots to 'cover' for as of right now. Not all-NBA, but nice to solid.

The "we'll trust others to play defense for us" defense isn't appealing at all.
I just hope that Calderon/Lou are staggered with DLO/JC. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
