Since GV is retiring after this season I thought I'd post this recent article about this training legend and give him props for a job well done!
Lakers trainer searches for an injury solution
Quote:
After three decades, that's still Vitti's role. He's the NBA's longest-tenured trainer, having managed the health of players from Magic Johnson to Kobe Bryant for 31 seasons, all the while still trying to find out what works and what doesn't.
But in his final season, Vitti is focused not only on fixing injuries but preventing them altogether.

never confuse longevity with greatness. he held the job long as he has because Buss family are very royal and to a fault sometimes
I'm loyal too. But the writing's been on the wall for the Lakers organization as a whole that some updates/upgrades are needed for a while. _________________ We back.

We are, but only out of love. It's time he got to steppin'. Same with Byron. We can't have relics in an age of analytics, ball movement, and modern medicine.

Lakers explain 'zone' system for tracking player performance
Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers began testing out a new way to better track the health and performance of their players. To do so, they culled data from multiple devices and methods and fed it into a formula that charted the players in green, yellow or red zones. As you'd expect, green is good, yellow is caution and red is bad.
Is all this bile and hatred towards Vitti actually based on anything concrete?
I agree, love him or hate him, the man is a Laker legend and should get some degree of respect.
My daughter who is a personal trainer-dietitian and has masters in Kinesiology laughs at the stupidity and ignorance displayed in this forum. She's met Gary and she said he's one of the most knowledgeable and experienced trainers in the country.

In addition to questions about him adapting with the times and providing modern NBA trainer care, there were also the pesky little domestic violence issues.
Other than that, it is cool. I guess he should just be glad he isn't a Russian Hockey Player. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

Is there any actual concrete evidence as to Vitti is the reason why we've been having all these injury problems the past three years? Weren't we blaming MDA and Byron for all these injuries? Bottom line is that Vitti is just a medical trainer; he can give as much advice he wants to. Ultimately, it's the coach that calls the shots on how many minutes a guy plays and whether or not he should be resting.

So in other words... not really. Lots of people hate on Vitti but you're the first I remember to bring up his private life, so that's probably not it either.
People are enamored with Phoenix Sun's training staff but that doesn't make Vitti bad either. I've never read anything bad about him coming from any laker player. Guys like Kobe or Shaq would not hold back in criticism if they thought he was terrible and putting them at risk.
