I can't believe Lakers did not get this beast.

He gives what Lakers badly needed like defense and rebounding. He can shoot from the out side, has a nice post game, can also be nice at pick and roll, can be a stretch center/power forward(LOL),makes steals, great attitude and is a good passer.

He already dunk over Love and Aldridge.

Ah great, another "let me predict stuff for you after it happens, and use the same acumen to support it that I did in not calling it ahead of time" thread! Yay.

Lakers had the 2nd pick. Everybody here was calling the Knicks and P-Jax dumb for using the 4th pick on Porzingis.

I think closer to the draft, Porzingis is gaining momentum. I think I saw a report calling him the best at the draft.

Before the draft, people knows Porzingis has a great upside. The only concern is injury and strength. I think I saw a report(before the draft) calling him the best in the draft.

Still would draft Russell over Porzingas. Towns would be the only one I would have taken over Russell but he wasn't available. Lakers made the right choice..

Made the right choice? That remains to be seen.

No one but maybe Phil and a few Knicks FO guys were sold that Porzingis could ball this good this fast. They all thought he'd need years. If anyone knew ZP could play like this now, I think he is completely differently projected.

I saw so many vids and reports on him around June, and while I was intrigued there was little that showed he was this ready to play and this good a pro at 19/20.

BTW, Lakers were interested. He was high on their list. I remember defending the article in the draft thread about Lakers considering taking Porzinigis at 2, because I thought their history with Bynum led them to feel comfortable taking a chance on ZP. I made the argument that perhaps they saw something in the private work outs.

Also I think on draft day maybe only 1 or 2 GM's take him at 2. He was not even an auto choice at 4, most bashed Phil for taking him 4. Laker fans would have gone nuts if we take him at 2. And then of course pretended they were ok with it all along. Sort of like the ones who bash Russell will do in a few years

But that body, wolf. I loved his aggressiveness, and anyone who called him Eurosoft on defense simply didn't watch the tape. The real question is whether he can survive an 82 game NBA season as a PF, and whether (like Euroleague) he'd disappear for long stretches of the game.

I am impressed with what I am seeing from Porzingis... but the real question is whether his body will allow him a long career.

When people bash Lakers fans for bashing Krispy Pork Fat, just remember nearly the entire Knicks fanbase hated him. And he's their player.

They all are eating crow more than us.

Yup. He's gained considerable muscle during the past summer and is showing some Kirilenko-strength out there despite the frame.

Hope he doesn't show Kirilenko injury-proneness as well.

When deciding between Russell and Porzingis, I think there was an issue of durability and possible fit.

Play him at SF? Next to Randle? On offense that works. On defense?

High risk, high reward pick...obviously the players the Knicks wanted were off the board so they went with him. I think Mitch was high on him as well, but they didn't want him at #2, when they had a safer pick that would probably fit better with where the Lakers wanted to go in the long run.
Also dunking over players is a terrible metric to judge how good they might be.....

This Porzy tame Randle. For his size, his speed is nice.

Randle was settling too much. I'm sure if he kept trying to attack the basket it would have led to foul trouble/D issues for KP. But KP really used his length well and has deceptive foot speed. He didn't Randle do a lot of the stuff he was easily doing against other PF's. A lot of PF's let Randle blow by easily and can't contest his shots as well. Randle's really good at getting his way into the paint.

Randle out-rebounded him. They both shot poorly. I'm not sure either one can claim victory tonight.

Wow. He dunked over Love and Aldridge. And he's shooting 39% on the rest of his shots.
