Just shocking how bad he is so far... it's not even D-League worthy.

I'm just sad how far he's fallen. He should really sit himself until he can figure out how to not be the most negative player on the team. He can't throw a pea into the ocean while on a boat right now. And it won't change anytime soon.

well he's probably not wrong
the Smush/Kwame days are kind of proof

iono, no one can deny that he's playing like garbage but I'll never doubt the man and I'll never forget what he's done for this team.

What does Kobe have to prove right now? What is he getting from shooting historically bad %'s? Just hang it up Kob.

Remember when reporters wouldn't stop asking "What do you think about being able to play with Kobe?" over the offseason?

Hes getting paid 25mil that's probably a good reason why.

I'm sure the Lakers would still pay him every penny if he decided to retire.

Seriously, let say we luck into the number one pick, then Kobe saying you know what, I will take a big pay cut and play one more year to "mentor" the young guys. I would say hell no! It's time for the organization to move on, get a new coach and let the young team develop it's own identity.

I'm seriously wondering if this is what's going in behind the scenes. Management told Kobe he MUST play every game to get his $24m and retire a laker. If he retires early, they'll stop cutting checks.

Why hold him prisoner? Because he's their only draw. If he goes out, there will be less asses in the seats than a Keith closs clippers team. And don't they have to give back money on their twc deal if their ratings tank?

Lastly, is the Achilles really death knell to a player?others have come back from it and they didn't look sucked dry like Kobe.

I'm thinking it's a combo of the Achilles and the knees. Arthritis? He's got no lift. Won't go to the rack. Just keeps bombing away threes.

I gotta believe Kobe would have retired if he was guaranteed that money. There's no shame in doing so if the body will no longer abide. What can he do?

It's apparently clear he won't take a back seat. So let him hang em up.

Highly, if not entirely unlikely considering Kobe's presence this season has no impact on "butts in seats".

I think Jeannir and co are just like some of the other fans that just can't let go. Sometimes, the hard decisions are the right ones.

Kobe needs to be moved to the bench and have his minutes slashed when he does play. I don't think he should be out there more than 20 min a game unless he is absolutely on fire

No, Kobe puts butts in seats.

He's putting my butt in a seat in Philly to say goodbye to him.

I think he's doing that for a lot of fans.

I just wish he didn't have to go out like this.

(if they continue this next year, then we really have a bigger problem).

Even if the case is to start him is for "the show" is there any rationale reason why he should be playing more than say 20 min a game?

Remember this quote from 2012?

Quote:
How much more time do you think you have?

Kobe: It's interesting to me to hear people put the proverbial nail in the coffin. Very interesting. You think I'll hang around and average 19 points, 18 points and stuff like that? Hell no!

The lack of accountability is what is killing this team's fabric.

Lakers fans will support the team regardless if Kobe plays or not. He's not only hurting the development of the young players but also his legacy. Were not seeing Duncan, Dirk, or KG take this many bad shots a game. Those shots are going to the younger players.

I've lost a ton of respect for Kobe for those comments and the way he's handled this season. He doesn't care about anything but himself. Kobe is not good enough to be in the rotation right now let alone start. Byron needs to bench Kobe if he wants whats best for the development of Clarkson, Randle, and Russell.

I wouldn't go so far as saying "cut the cord" with Kobe.

I think out of respect, the Lakers tell him the truth, which is:

1. lesser salary
2. lesser role, possibly off the bench

Kobe says no thank you, and wins his gold medal in the Olympics and enjoys the rest of his life.
Telling him the truth would be he's not good anymore. Retire at the all star break because its only going to get worse. I'm losing more and more respect for him with how many shots he's taking away from the youngsters. His time is up, harsh reality.

The lakers should not bring Kobe back for any reason at any price...he's not going to help this team as a player. If you want his influence we can bring him back as a consultant as a player this should be it

My goal is the same (have him retire); there is a way to do this honorably and just turning off the life support isn't the right way.

clearly this is his last year.

Let's hope he doesn't have a season ending injury and actually gets to do his farewell on the court and not on the bench.

The problem is Byron keeps encouraging Kobe to shoot and lies to him about being good still. Someone needs to be honest with Kobe and tell him father time is undefeated because he still thinks he's good.

Yup I didn't remember the quote exactly but I remembered him saying that.

But then injuries changed everything. I think Kobe enjoys the challenge of rehabing, coming back, struggling, fighting through everything, never giving up. In 2012 it was still immortal Kobe. Injuries made him realise how much basketball means to him and that what he averages may not be that important compared to just being on the court and playing basketball as long as he can.

Honestly, he should hang it up at the All-Star break. He is so clearly finished and it's embarrassing that he's out there performing the way he is.
