D-Fenders’ Comeback Halted By OKC

Quote:
In a season full of insane comebacks, D-Fenders coach Coby Karl felt that “basketball karma” finally caught up with his dramatic D-Fenders squad on Saturday night. Los Angeles fell behind by as many as 26 points only to charge forward and tie the game with less than five minutes left. However, Oklahoma City — which trails only the D-Fenders in the Western Conference standings — steadied itself by ending the game on a 9-3 run for a 134-128 victory.

"Looking Ahead
The D-Fenders have no time to rest, as they will host Austin on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT. The Spurs currently sit two games below .500, but boast a top talent in No. 7 prospect Hollis Thompson, who has played the past four seasons as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers."

Blue’s Game-Winner Caps D-Fenders’ Comeback

Quote:
One night after the D-Fenders their a furious comeback came up just short, Vander Blue made sure it wasn’t about to happen again.

With the game tied in its final moments, the D-League’s top prospect rose up for an in-rhythm, transition 3-pointer that swished through for a 121-118 victory. It was another dramatic victory for Los Angeles — which has proven that no lead is safe multiple times this season — as the Austin Spurs led by as many as 19 points.

* Josh Magette - 26 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists
* Julian Jacobs - 25 points
* J. Harper 24 points

Blue Caps D-Fenders Comeback With Clutch 3
Quote:
The Los Angeles D-Fenders (27-8) used a Vander Blue 27-foot three-pointer with two seconds remaining to knock off the Austin Spurs (15-19) on Sunday at the Toyota Sports Center, 121-118.

The shot capped off a 19-point comeback for Los Angeles on a day in which the home team trailed for all but 100 seconds. Prior to Blue’s hopeful heave, the D-Fenders had only led after the game’s opening basket.

While Blue may have been the hero of the day, it was first-time all-star pick Josh Magette that paced the D-Fenders offense, finishing the game with 26 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and seven assists. Rookie Julian Jacobs had his top performance of the year with a career-high 25 points. Meanwhile, Justin Harper totaled 24 points, three rebounds and three assists while going 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, the top mark of his career. Blue finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.

I really-really want to see how Magette would do in the Lakers uniform....
Better than Huertas & Calderon IMHO.

He certainly would do no worse. Defensively he is definitely better than both.

NBA Developmental League to be renamed NBA Gatorade League

"The NBA Development League will be renamed to the NBA Gatorade League for the 2017-18 season.

NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum says the agreement also allows the "G-League" to take advantage of Gatorade's Sports Science Institute. Tatum says the league will use the institute's "sports science expertise and knowledge to enhance player performance in our game" through nutrition, training and other advances.

Gatorade senior vice president and general manager Brett O'Brien listed several examples: testing for a player's sweat type and amount, if they are a fat burner or carbohydrate burner, recovery advances and joint health.

As part of the deal, the Gatorade logo will be displayed on jerseys, game balls and on the court.

The league also remains a testing ground for changes that could be implemented into the parent league."

* NBA And Gatorade Team Up For G-League

Quote:
In partnership with Gatorade, the NBA's D-League will be called the G-League starting next season.

The NBA's arrangement with Gatorade follows suit with similar deals made by NASCAR, but this is the first time a U.S. professional sports league has had an entitlement sponsor.

The NBA uploaded a press release and video to YouTube to announce the business deal Monday. The league's plans to find a title sponsor have been public since November 2014. "For the D-League to go to the next level, one of the top items on our agenda is potentially selling a naming-rights deal for the league," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told USA Today.

Ayres to Pursue Opportunities Overseas

Quote:
Los Angeles D-Fenders center Jeff Ayres will leave the team to pursue opportunities overseas, General Manager Nick Mazzella announced today.

Ayres appeared in 22 games (10 starts) for Los Angeles this season, averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in 23.0 minutes per game. The NBA veteran and former Arizona State standout appeared in two games with the D-Fenders last season before receiving an NBA Call-Up to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2016. He is the league’s current leader in field goal percentage, having connected on 66.7 percent of his attempts this season.

The D-Fenders roster currently stands at 10 players.

They are still the D-Fenders. Name doesn't change until the season is over.

At least they won't become the G-Fenders.

D-Fenders Shine at D-League All-Star Game

Quote:
When it came to the final minutes of the D-League All-Star Game, Western Conference head coach Coby Karl simply turned to the three players who got him there in the first place.

The D-Fenders coach put in his players — Josh Magette, Vander Blue and Justin Harper — who nearly rallied their squad back from an 11-point deficit. Magette and Blue hit a 3-pointer and layup, respectively, to bring the deficit to one in the final two minutes.

However, the East recovered behind MVP Quinn Cook (18 points, 12 assists) and came away with a 105-100 win at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Harper — who also played in last year’s All-Star game — led his team in scoring with 17 points, including three 3-pointers and a fast-break dunk.

Meanwhile, Blue finished with 15 points in his third consecutive trip to the D-League’s midseason exhibition, while Magette recorded 11 points and seven assists in his All-Star debut.

D-Fenders Capture Win In First Meeting With Windy City

Quote:
Down by five with six minutes remaining, the D-Fenders went on one of their trademark, game-ending tears. Los Angeles finished the game with a 25-16 run to roll past the Windy City Bulls, 115-111, as Julian Jacobs led this final charge with seven points and a pair of assists.

Player of the Game: David Nwaba - 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting w/ 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks.

He is a fantastic defensive player. I think he should get an invite from the Lakers too.
His defensive skills and acumen could eventually prove to be an NBA commodity.
