Quote:
Jumaine Jones swears there was nothing personal about his career night against the Los Angeles Lakers. If there was any doubt, he erased it by taking a bag of gear into his former team's locker room for Kobe Bryant to sign for him.

Quote:
Jones then headed over to see Bryant, who stopped his postgame interviews to praise his former teammate.

"That's my guy," Bryant gushed before exchanging hugs with Jones and giving him an autographed pair of his game shoes. "I hated to see him go. That's my man. I love him."

Quote:
"He practiced against Kobe all of last year, so obviously it was sweet revenge for him," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "We deserved that. We didn't know who he was, we gave him up to Charlotte, we had no idea how good a player he was."

Is this a joke?? JJ played for us for a year and no one knows who he is? Mitch & co don't know how good JJ is? what about Hamblen and shaw? Do they even care about kobe's opinion at all? Does this explain why they weren't serious about getting Artest even though kobe wanted him so badly? I am a bit confused.

I don't understand that, if PJ wanted a hustle, energy, defender like Ruben Patterson, I would think Phil would have kept him. Let's be real though, the guy averages 7 points a game. The only reason he went off tonight was to show up L.A.

It's one game. If you remember the guy plays no defense. Although I don't understand why they trade him but keep Luke.

Jumaine was only our second best player last year. We should have kept him instead of Luke the spaz.

With the way Luke is playing, I much rather have Jumaine. He was a very pleasant surprise last season with his scoring bursts when the team needed them. Some games he would just hit a few 3's to get a Lakers run started and other nights he would scramble, hustle and board. I don't see Luke doing that anytime soon.

Everyone kept saying how replacable guys like JJ are. Maybe so, but please not with Luke. That experiment fails more than it works.

Instead of talkin about JJ, how about giving the Lakers a mouthful on their terrible defense?

Especially considering Walton was a free agent.

While other teams were going after guys like Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Sam Cassell.....we were dicking around with the super-necessary Luke Walton resigning.

Lanny don't even get me started on Raja Bell. I absolutely love his game... the guy plays tough as nails defense and has improved his shot tremendously!! For me it's a joy to watch this guy play since he is the ultimate role player imo. Actually I used to not be able to stand the guy when he was with the Sixers and Utah and played Kobe tough. He always had that smerk on his face but now I have learned to totally respect his game and wish him the best.

I'm sure I could go back and dig up some reports from SPL where JJ was sucking out loud to a point where he was left on the bench.

If he had played this well then (hell, if he had actually played like he gave a crap), he wouldn't have been shipped and Green wouldn't have been kept.

Still, the quote from Phil is more than a little baffling...

I was disappointed when he was traded. He did a good job for the Lakers. I liked his energy. The Lakers kept DG and Luke, because of their knowledge of the triangle. It was especially important to have some players with triangle experience for this season.

Played like he gave a crap? You are surely confusing him for someone else.

JJ certainly gave a crap. He went to the bigman camp to specifically work on his Triangle footwork in the summer. He just had a poor preseason and we were stacked at his position with the idea of moving Lamar down there full time and George healthy.

The "no idea" thing from Phil is stupifying, however.

Had Profit not ruptured his achilles... Green would not be on the roster. He would have been dumped for Turiaf.

but Ronny Turiaf's return wasn't a guarantee when we had the "business transaction with Charolette" that sent JJ packing.

Jumaine Jones didn't play in the SPL.
