I'd vouch for it. My mom tied my left hand behind my back often when I was really young (because of its "bad luck stigma"), and now I'm basically ambidextrous.

I've warned people that it would be a struggle for him once the defense adapted to his limitations. He's a rookie though. Him and Russell are going through the same kind of struggles.

But with one big difference, Randle has athletic skills.

Kid has talent, but like Russell, needs a real coach to teach him how to play NBA basketball. Unfortunately, Byron's "man-ups" aren't helping anyone.

His defensive position is of concern, but the main thing is he needs to play with a bit more control on O.

Personally I never got the Lamar Odom comparisons, I think they are quite different players. Lamar underachieved but was maybe a top 10 talent (talent) in the league with great length combined with a high level of athleticism. He had true PG instincts and ability. You would never accuse LO of being a black hole or not moving the ball to teammates.

If I knew JR, I'd tell him to start focusing on having an identity as a player. What's my true role on the team for O and D? Stretch 4? Then gotta start making more jumpshots and be willing to catch and shoot. Stretch 4's don't just drive non-stop into the paint. But if not stretch 4, then he has to improve a lot on the P/R. He has to become better at setting strong picks and then rolling to the basket as fast and as committed as when he has the ball in his hands and trust that Russ will get him the ball.

There's 2 types of roles I see for Randle. 1) Stretch 4. He does what he's already doing but also takes (and makes) more jumpers. Improve his 3 ball, jumper and combine that with his driving skills. 2) P/R specialty big, who can also create his own shot. To do this, he has to improve his pick setting and rolling angles to the basket. In theory, a guy like Randle shouldn't have trouble becoming a really good roller to the basket.

I do think Randle's a 15 ppg guy in the league, and will get you 8-9 rpg. Physically he's also more in line with what you need in the league. What he needs now is defined role and objective within the O that is more than just creating shots by himself.

He needs that jumper. The sooner he realizes that hitting a 15 footer is easier than jumping into 14 feet of defenders in the paint, he'll be the better.

His confidence is shook at this moment.

I found my kind!

He needs to start taking that jumper without hesitation, he gets the ball in the mid post and starts to dribble he's easy to guard. He needs a step back jumper, just shoot it young man. Russell and Randle play scared out there, not sure if that's a Byron thing. He'll start to figure it out.

I'd be fine with Randle taking that open jumper and missing it. Would provoke him to improve it.

That hesitation in his mind where he's thinking "shoot or do I try to be a 6'8 Rafer Alston" is really messing with his jumper (notwithstanding his mechanics).

I'm just worried whenever he takes off because he does some crazy legs contortion in mid-air, and I feel like he'll land awkwardly and hurt his f00t (jinx).

He needs to stop thinking he's a guard. Teams already know that he's going to bulldoze his way to the basket and are waiting for him to charge into them.

Forget practicing with his left, let's first have him get a decent jumper going.

His shot is worst than many guys I grew up with. He has no touch, no rotation, he shoots like a guy who has just picked up a basketball for the first time. And most of his inside shots are just flips....GEEZ!!
