Didn't your previous sig compare him to a piece of poop?

I compared his coaching job of the Lakers to what Phil Jackson did for the Lakers as a coach, similar to comparing a BMW to poop. There just isn't a comparison. He's not a (bleep) head, he knows basketball. He just wasn't the right guy for Kobe, Dwight, Pau and he won't be the right guy for Dwight, Harden and the core of that team. It's not just about basketball X's and O's when you have a coach or someone in charge it's also how he can fit in with the players.

McHale was widely seen as Morey's puppet. Morey can't fire the whole team he put together and won't fire himself. That put Lurch's head on the chopping block. Dwight has fallen off so much and he's Morey's prize pig. The Nuggets were successfully guarding him in the post with Faried. This is Morey's team and his concept, ultimately he has to take responsibility, especially as much as he loves to take the credit. Too bad Simmons is no longer around to rag on for this fiasco. We all know Dork Elvis is his idol.

I could NOT be happier to see Lurch FIRED!

I hate that guy...

Hated him for clothes-lining Rambis back in the day.

Hated him in Leprechaun green!

Didn't Dwight say he wanted to play in Houston because McHell was a "big-man coach"??

Sorry Howard but your last game in which you scored five points in the loss was McHell's last game... LOL...

+1

Only thing better would be Rocket fans lobbing urine bombs (a la soccer hooligans) at him as he exited the building.

I agree with what she had to say but she did her husband no favors. Family members and Twitter don't mix.

Kevin McHale’s wife rips Rockets on Twitter after firing

The Rockets’ firing of head coach Kevin McHale on Wednesday took the NBA by surprise. McHale’s wife, Lynn, was not thrilled about the decision, firing off a series of tweets criticizing Rockets GM Daryl Morey, among other things:

Lynn deleted her Twitter account shortly after posting the tweets.

The wife's twitter comments make it out to be that James was the one that got this one done.

Yeah I kinda knew it was more James Harden even though due to his past with SVG, Dwight will probably get all the blame for McHale firing. McHale loves Dwight, and Dwight responded well to McHale through out their time together. Even last week McHale said the entire team was giving no effort except Dwight.

It's a shame for him because he took the team to the WCF, and they aren't that great to begin with. They've got a really good team, and should definitely be in the playoffs, but not on the level of GST or SAN. If Harden/Dwight don't play like all-stars, their team has nothing else really. Way I see it they overachieved last year.

Either way, they do know their situation better than I.

Please fire Byron Mitch. Now that Morey did it...(and that's with a coach who at least took them to the WCF).

The difference is expectation.

Houston is expecting their team to be a WC powerhouse and contender. They brought in Lawson and wanted to improve their O, instead it's gotten much much worse. The Lakers seem to be ok with another lottery season and 50+ losses.

I don't see what scapegoating McHale will accomplish, but they know their team better than I for sure, as I'm just a casual observer. Just a casual observer, I thought McHale did really well with Dwight and utilizing the talent they had. They're not supposed to be better than GST and they got to the WCF last year. The Lawson trade is a disaster, but that's on Morey moreso than McHale.

And that was a bad move

Thibs is obviously the most overrated available coach right now. Lots of clamor for a guy who has done little as a head coach.

I hope they don't wait until Kerr comes back so that they can snatch Luke.

That would seriously be a kick in the nuts.

He was in the WCF last year. This was too early. I think Howard walks at the end of season, probably to Spurs after Duncan retires.

Dwight going to the Spurs would be awesome. For Laker fans.

I don't know that analytics support giving up draft picks and/or players for a new coach.

Dwight's having knee issues, and while I haven't watched much of the Rockets this year, just statistically he seems to be just as good at all the areas he was always good at, and just as limited/bad in the areas he was always struggling in.

It's more of a classic decline like Pau, TD other elite bigs had around 30. They still produce elite per minute level, just in shorter minutes. He's no longer able to carry a franchise to the playoffs or Finals, but he's still one of the best C's in the league and his rebounding, FG%, ability to finish plays off S/R or cuts are all elite. But whoever has Dwight has to use him smartly, sort of how Pop knew how to slow down TD's minutes and action 5-6 years ago. That's what McHale was doing until he got fired. You play 30-32 minutes top, you make sure you keep him well rested and skip some games like when there's 4 games in 5 nights or a lot of B2B's. Stuff like that. I think he's good for 15/10/2 at 55-60FG% for at least another 3-4 years.

JB Bickerstaff is Bernie Bickerstaff's son.

It was an analytics move and JB was a known rising star in the NBA coaching community, he was going to get a shot somewhere sooner rather than later.

I like the move for Houston, I never saw McHale as a great coach although he was certainly a great player.

McHale got nearly every drop of potential out of that team. Conference finals while disposing the Lippers, with a centerpiece constantly in and out of the lineup. Deserves credit for that.
