Clippers have post-game locker room blowup after loss to Raptors

The Los Angeles Clippers played poorly Sunday — much like they did the fourth quarter Thursday against the Warriors, but instead this time for a full game — and lost to the Toronto Raptors at home, 91-80. J.J. Redick put up an early dozen to make it interesting, but after that the Clippers just fell apart. Los Angeles is now 6-7 on the season and has lost seven of its last nine.

This latest loss led to a locker room blowup Sunday.

The interview room that the Clippers use at Staples Center is next to the Clipper locker room. After the loss Sunday, multiple media members could hear yelling coming out of the closed Clipper’s locker room. Here are some of the comments from the Clippers on Twitter, trying to play it all down.

The Clippers do have a lot of issues, but they start on the defensive end — the Clippers are 22nd in the league in defensive rating, giving up 104.3 points per 100 possessions. For comparison, the Clippers were a middle of the pack defensive team, and they gave up 2.3 points fewer per 100 possessions. Paul Pierce looks slow, Lance Stephenson looks like a swing and a miss by Rivers the GM, and while the overall Clipper offense is still potent it is 5.4 points worse per 100 possessions than it was a year ago.

The Clippers are not in New Orleans-level trouble this season, but it’s not pretty. The Clippers look nothing like the contender everyone expected them to be this season.

D-Jordan came back, but that doesn't mean his relationship with Paul is any better.

They won't win anything with CP3. Awesome regular season player. Nice stats. Trade him now.

Cp3 and Reddick are the only 2 players on that roster with an IQ higher then the highest jersey number on that roster.

Blake is average in that department but the rest of the roster is brain dead.

Aside from that they're mentally fragile in big games and any signs of adversity they wilt and crumble.

Early in the season but if they don't get over that they'll be another big disappointment like they've been the past few season.

Adding Lance Stephenson didn't exactly raise the team's average basketball IQ.

Wait, what about their big Wes Johnson signing?

They have never played championship level defense. It's much harder to win big games and big playoff games when a team relies so much on outscoring the competition. The Lakers had that issue before Phil Jackson became the head coach. And unfortunately for the Clippers, Phil and Kobe aren't going to save them.

They have shown it. They aren't consistent with it throughout an entire big game.

They showed it last year when they battled tooth and nail to defeat the Spurs. They showed it early in the Rockets series before they collapsed. They've shown it in both meetings vs. the Warriors before... again collapsing. Mentally weak teams can't get over the hump of getting by supposed 'rivals' in big games.

They remind me of the Kings during the Lakers 3peat era. Or the Blazers during the 'JailBlazers' era.

No sympathy for chest thumping Clipper fans of the past few seasons, but they're team is going the same fate as those previous teams mentioned. They're getting older, their core is getting fed up with the same results. We're less then 20% into this season and they're starting to implode already.

Wes Johnson, Josh Smith, Lance ...

I liked their Pierce signing, not how Doc's using him and exerting those minutes... but those other three and Jamal Crawford are the bane to their struggles. Deandre for all he lacks upstairs, at the least is a necessity out there.

This is the greatest news I heard since the season started.

Spurs wont go that route. Pop teaches his players to play basketball not (bleep) and whine after every other play.

As long as Pop is around, you can expect the Spurs to be a strong organization.

It's still early in the season, but this is really a make or break year for the Clips.

I never really bought into the rather inflated hullabaloo that this team was on the brink of taking that next step. They already struggled in the half-court in crunch so when CP3 started laying eggs in clutch opportunities, I knew they weren't for long, especially given their chemistry. Jordan was vastly overrated and now, they're locked in and locked down to this roster. I don't see what they can do to change their current course. There's still time but it sure looks like an almost-was scenario if there ever was one.

Doc is stubborn. He shows too much loyalty to a washed up Pierce and a mediocre Austin Rivers. Neither should be getting the minutes that Doc gives them.

Posted July 16, 2015. Right after they signed Josh Smith, Pierce, and traded for Stephenson.

Lots of people were going gaga. I still think this team will eventually completely implode

Maybe he'd be interested in reacquiring his old player, Brandon Bass?

He always gets the blame but I don't think he's ever been the problem. Its the rest of their brain dead roster that needs to go.
