Didn't know how good a player JJ was? Jones' play on the court pretty much spoke for itself. So, how these guys could not know how good he was, is a mystery to me. What a joke.

Maybe we fans should be running the team, because most of us knew what JJ brought to the table. The guy is a warrior, and we gave him up for what? A second round pick? Oh well, now you know Phil....And knowing is half the battle...GEEEEE I JOOOOE

As I stated in another thread, this is a direct shot at KUP. Ultimately its PJ's job to get the best out of the GM's players. PJ is not blameless in who plays for the Lakers but WE all saw that at the very Least JJ brought effort and the occasional scoring out burst. Kup does not know how to build a team. Dismantle yes, build nope

It was PJ who refused to play JJ in the pre-season. Why should Mitch keep the guy around if bums like Luke are getting all his minutes?

JJ is the exact opposite of Luke. Athletic, long, decent jump shot, decent defense, but low basketball IQ.

Good to know that one worked out for us. You know, because Luke is "flourishing" now that Phil is back.

I mean there was ONE GUY comming off the bench and consistantly making plays last year. ONE GUY. Auuuuhhhh Phil. That was JJ!

When they traded JJ I was like ugh, why did they do that? Now we need his offense badly, like the original poster said, "You need to ask somebody." Ugh...........

JJ is a solid scorer and defender off the bench. The best thing about him though is that he bought energy with him everytime he played. And that is what the Lakers are sorely missing. They've got to get Rony in the game.

could be more to all this? during an interview last year on KCAL, Jeanie was asked (before Phil made a decision to come back) if her and PJ watched games togather at home and what he thought of the players the Lakers had assembled. I remember jeanie making a point of how Phil really liked JJ (as he was the one player she singled out in the interview) at that time I thought JJ was safe and I was relived.

it could be that Phil went with his triangle "savey" players during camp in trying to create stability from the start and JJ wasnt going tp provide that?...in any event, I agree with the opinion that someone is passing the buck, or making an excuse, or slappin someones face? Phil does look a bit ignorant in his response! Phil's documented blindness regarding slava, George, Luke, and Cook, probably allowed him to think the team would be better under his guidance and didnt think we'd need JJ's spark?

It does still boggle ones mind that Frank Hamblin was the head coach last year and saw JJ first hand, yet being an assistant coach this year, he failed to tell phil how JJ could help the team?....something else is definetly happening here, or these guys are all a bunch of freakin idiots!

At least the Lakers got something for JJ. If not for the trade, they would have got nothing when he left as a FA.

This was a salary dump guys. The Lakers never gave this guy a look. Jones was the second best Laker LAST year, but the Lakers could dump him for 2nd round draft pick and save some money....apparently what the Lakers are best at these days.

Well, now that I read the rest of Jackson's comments, it sounds like a jab at the players. "We practiced against him all last year but we had no idea how good he was." That is saying that Kobe, George, Mihm, and Luke should have had an idea of what Jones could do.
