I'd honestly consider rolling the dice on Exum at 2. No one in this draft class has been impressive outside of Wiggins which is disappointing. |

One of the biggest things I think of when looking back at this draft is that Jerry West said right away that he thought the draft was overrated and a weak draft. At the time many thought the opposite and thought it was a stellar draft. Yet 18 months later, I think Jerry's statements look far more accurate.
There are some really good talents in this draft - but it does seem it has turned out to be a bit of a let down. In contrast the 2015 draft wasn't hyped as much and the expectations were a little less. Yet it's been mind blowing how many good players have been impressive right away.
On 2014 - I'm impressed with the following players for various reasons.
Wiggins - Defensive potential, great at driving/beating his man off the dribble, but needs to tone down his jumpshots if he can't make them. Not a good jumpshooter, Can't be a star or warrant these kind of shots if he's making them at such a poor rate.
Parker - Has a good all around skillset in a face up game from mid-range. I question whether he's truly better at 4 vs 3. I think he'd be better served at 3 where can do some of the same things Melo does. Then slide over to 4. Defensively I don't know what the Bucks are thinking with that Monroe/Parker front line. Really makes both players worse IMO.
Randle - Heck of rebounder and really good at forcing his way to the basket. Sort of like Parker, I don't really like his role on the team. Needs to get the ball 15' and in and go to work from there. Sort of like Wiggins, he has to develop a jumpshot.
Smart - Incredible defensive potential. Really, realy love his effort. Don't really like his attitude or the faces he can make (or the hair) but he's got so much versatility on defense. Can defend smalls and even bigger players. In the right setting he can be a major asset as a defender. On offense I'm seeing a role player. I think he should embrace the defensive role and just work his way up the league as a defensive ace.
Embiid and Exum can't really be evaluated properly due to injuries. With so many injures already, who knows what their careers will be like longterm with that regard. Saric is a guy who has some major skill. Interesting to see how he does.
Clarkson - Elite at getting great looks coming off screens. He's a killer off the dribble if you set him good screens. Doesn't do much else really well, but if he's in the right situation and system, where the coach really understands his strengths, I think he can be very dangerous.
Capela - Been real good at certain plays. Sort of like JC, a guy who has 1-2 bread and butter plays that'll just give him so many points/opportunities if he is in them again and again. But limited in all else. Very good NBA big man for the modern game. Needs to improve his defense though.
Gordon - Hasn't put it together, but has shown given minutes he'll perform. Lots of potential still left to improve. Probably the guy with the highest ceiling.
Nurkic, LaVine and McDermott also look like longterm NBA players.
I think I'd go with my top 10 as follows
Gordon
Capela
Wiggins
Parker
Payton
Clarkson
Randle
Smart
LaVine
McDermott
Unknown due to injuries/not yet in NBA - Embiid, Exum, Saric. |

So you would take Gordon/Capela 1-2 wolf? _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though." |

Parker putting up 20/9 his last 5 games. Gordon has also picked up his play since the Magic traded Harris putting up 16/9 his last 5 _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' This is who I think will have the better careers.
1. Clarkson
2. Randle
3. Wiggins
4. Parker
5. Lavine
6. Gordon
7. Smart
8. Hood
9. Capela
10. McDermott
The fact that all of you have Clarkson in your top 10 as the 46th pick tells me a lot. He has the biggest chip on his shoulder and will continue to get better and prove that he's the best player in the draft. Once Byron and Kobe are gone Clarkson is going to be a force next year. |

Yeah, don't really understand any kind of hate in Jabari's direction. Half of his offense is playing off-the-ball. I think it's impressive. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Don't most one-year college players picked in any draft year need pro seasoning before becoming impact players ? I think so. The 2014 lottery players seem to have been an extreme case, even considering how three top ten guys who missed a lot of time in their first NBA contract year (Randle, Parker, Embiid.) Wiggins will stick. Parker will prosper. Gordon will stay a specialist. Randle is still a high upside guy provided he works on the jumper more than he has to date. I'd watched LaVine at UCLA and was convinced he was a wing of considerable promise, but not a lead guard having much intuition. |
