I remember years back I called two sorta accurate predictions...I predicted after the 2011 sweep by Dallas, that the Lakers are gonna make a big splash the off-season and reload the roster... (Didn't quite work out well thanks to Stern)....

Then I predicted D12 will be a Laker the following season... (Somewhat accurate...didn't stay though)

Being a Michigander, I'm watching the SVG/Drummond situation (yep, there's one), and a lot of my Michigan Native friends/family that are Piston fans are telling me they fear SVG is gonna annoy Drummond to the point where he doesn't sign long term, maybe a 1 year tender, then flee to La La land....I kind of can see this happening....In fact, let me hit you with another prediction. It will happen!!!!

(Screen shots/ save's post...you'll thank me later)

SVG loves having a big like Dwight. I doubt he drives him away.

Drummond and Simmons joining DLO/Randle/Clarkson and possibly Durant or Westbrook......Now that is dreaming....

Drummond would be a fantastic addition, love his game, and it is still blossoming...

Restricted free agent this season. Pistons will match whatever offer that we throw at him.

Hell if we offer him a 24k solid gold jet. Pistons will double that and give him a yacht. We are not getting him

This requires him pulling a Greg Monroe.

There's a lot of risk and he would have to be hell bent on getting out of Detroit. That's a LOT of $$$ to put on the table if he gets hurt.

Right. ..I meant to add he'd have to pull a Greg Monroe. ..Hopefully it comes to that lol

Interesting theory OP. Drummond is putting up career highs in points and rebounds under Stan.
So did Dwight.

From the outside, one would think Drummond wants to stay where he's at (due to his recent success).
But the same could've been said about Dwight back in Orlando.

One factor I think is different though. Our roster was better than the Magic when Dwight wanted to come here.
That's not the case with Detroit and Drummond right now.

We can only offer 4 years, 4.5% raises.

They can offer 5 years, 7.5% raises...and can match anything.

If we offer him a long term contract then Detroit matches. He will not turn down a long term contract for a one year qualifying offer.

I'm afraid he's going 3 for 3 with the Drummond deal turning out like the other 2. Maybe we get Drummond and he ends up with bad knees and ends up playing 20 games per season for 4 years. Or maybe Drummond and DLo fued driving DLo to seek a trade!

I feel like I don't understand athlete mentality. I wanna say if we honestly had a better roster and a brighter future, he should do it, even if it means fewer years and smaller raises. If you can manage to go broke with $200 million in the bank, you can go just as broke with $250 million in the bank. A marginal dollar should theoretically mean close to nothing at that point. But somehow it doesn't. Zack Greinke just emphatically proved that. Someday he's going to die and his bank account will be 3% fatter at his death. I hope that's worth it, I guess.

Will they offer new max? Free agents rfa included are in a good way. This new salary cap will cause some to balk imo

As we saw with Jimmy Butler this past summer, these guys might (bleep) and complain about their situation, but when it comes down to it, they usually cave in and sign on the dotted line once you put a long term contract in front of them. Most of them just won't risk injury.

Weirder things have happened in terms of free agency. I would absolutely love Drummond (which team wouldn't?) in terms of his rebounding ability, defense, and strength down low. He's only 22, and he's already a guy where you don't bat an eye at a 20-20 statline from him.

The thing about SVG is that his offenses have always revolved around putting capable playmakers and shooters around a dominant force in the center. I believe that SVG has the same power as Doc where he has a significant say in personnel decisions. I just can't see him letting a top tier talent like Drummond leave for nothing.

Jimmy Butler did take the QO as a bet on himself, and a solid year + no injury set him up for a hefty payday. Drummond could easily do the same if he thought that the upside of a max contract with the increased cap was worth it.

In fairness to Butler... he is on the Bulls in Chicago. That's a pretty sweet city. Honestly probably the best I have ever lived in... and I've lived in quite a few ones people like... such as San Diego, Monterey, LA, Las Vegas, and some others that wouldn't rise to that list like St Louis, Reno, and Spokane.. but just saying... Chicago is pretty sweet.

That 5th year means nothing, and the difference in raises for a rookie max is about $600,000 a year. Not that I disagree with you, but just wanting to point that out. Assuming a third year opt out, that would be giving up almost $2 mil.

Drummond can get quite a bit more if he would take the QO and become an UFA next season when the cap will increase yet again.
