I just don't think I could decide between Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Jim Morison, and John Henry Bonham. Far too many others that are close seconds for me as well (many mentioned previously). |

I dont see how the likes of Jimi or Cobain for example could have reached even greater heights. But Biggie, it would have been interesting to see how he would have competed/dominated with some of the popular acts we have seen over the past 10-15 years. |
Actually, Hendrix was said to be starting a shift in style and technique at the time of his death that some around him felt was going to take him to another level. |
As a huge Hendrix fan, I tend to be skeptical as well. Sure, his music changed from 1967 and 1970 and there are reports that he was interested in trying new things (using orchestras, violins, etc.), but it didn't necessarily change for the better. Much of the stuff he recorded in the last few months of his life was mediocre. The music that was released subsequently in the form of albums isn't that great, though, granted, some of it sounds unfinished and unfocused. His peak was with Electric Ladyland, but even that album had some filler.
Unlike his songwriting, what did improve for the better even to his last days was his playing. Most people don't realize how much he improved as a guitarist between 1966 and 1970. So it would have been interesting to see how he would have developed in that regard.
In the long run, his talents would have been better used if he was the lead guitarist as part of a band where he didn't have songwriting responsibilities. |
I tend to agree. He was definitely in a sort of transitional phase right before his death. Kind of starting to move on from what had made him famous, and taking his stuff to a different kind of place that he hadn't fully discovered, if that makes sense.
As far as his overall catalog and songwriting, I agree even on his great albums there's quite a bit of filler that's just kind of average, and sound a little unfinished or mailed in. But then you hear songs like Little Wing, Castles, and Bold as Love, and it's just musical perfection -- some of the most creative, progressive, lyrically and musically beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. |

I do think Hendrix is one of those guys that could've re-invented himself very successfully tho, once he did figure it out all the way. He was definitely a musical chameleon |

Any and all of the deceased members of Spinal Tap:
John "Stumpy" Pepys: Died in a bizarre gardening accident that the authorities said was "best left unsolved."
Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs: Choked on vomit of unknown origin, perhaps but not necessarily his own, because "you can't really dust for vomit."
Peter "James" Bond: Spontaneously combusted on stage during a jazz-blues or blues-jazz festival on the Isle of Lucy, leaving behind what has been described alternatively as a "globule" or a "stain"
Mick Shrimpton: Exploded onstage.
Joe "Mama" Besser: Claimed he "couldn't take this 4/4 (bleep)"; according to an MTV interview with Spinal Tap in November 1991, he disappeared along with the equipment during their Japanese tour. He is either dead or playing jazz. The name is a play on that of Joe Besser, who similarly had a short-lived and ill-fitted stint as a member of The Three Stooges.
Richard "Ric" Shrimpton: Allegedly sold his dialysis machine for drugs; presumed dead.
Sammy "Stumpy" Bateman: Died trying to jump over a tank full of sharks while on a tricycle in a freak show.
Scott "Skippy" Scuffleton: Fate unknown.
Chris "Poppa" Cadeau: Eaten by his pet python Cleopatra.
Plus 9 other drummers at various times (Probably between 1970 and 1981) all of whom are dead. |

2pac.
His music is still unique because of the passion and anger in it. And as cliche as it sounds, he had plans in his mind to change the world. And he was a leader, an inspirer, and a galvanizer. It would have been interesting to see him try rile up America and change it.

Mine would be Kurt Cobain |
You couldn't bring him back because his brain was destroyed by a shotgun blast. Zombies 101. Also, it was a self-inflicted shotgun blast so if he wanted to be alive today, he would be. You'd be bringing him back against his wishes. |
Watch Soaked in Bleach and you might re-think the whole suicide thing.
But Cobain is a good idea, but my choice would be John Lennon _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I remember reading a story when during a break up, Lennon, Bonham and Harry Chapin shared a house for awhile. Would love to have been a fly on one of those walls. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |
