Here's a game... So for each of our young players going forward, list a player whom you think represents their maximum potential, one who represents their worst case scenario, and one which you think they will actually turn out like (can be the same as one of the other two if you're an optimist/pessimist.)

Example:

D'Angelo Russell

Ceiling: Damien Lilliard

Floor: Kendall Marshall with a jumpshot

Realist: Mike Conley

Randle, Clarkson, Nance, Ryan Kelly, Tarik Black, Anthony Brown are the others.

Lol stop it. Russell is already a way better NBA player than Marshall ever was.

His ceiling is probably best PG in the game.

Randle's ceiling is probably someone like Z-Bo.

Clarkson is probably a Jamal Crawford type.

D'Angelo Russell:

Ceiling: James Harden averaging 8-9 assists

Floor: 18/6 starting PG

Reasonable expectation: Current Lowry( 21/6 for 8+ years in NBA)

Randle:

Ceiling: 20/10 PF for 8+ years

Floor: 15/10 solid starter

Reasonable expectation: Z-Bo as well.

Clarkson

Ceiling: 22/4 which could be prime C.J. McCollum as well.

Floor: 17/3 guard in a winning team

1) You can argue that D'Angelo right now is better than Lou/Marshall/Jack/Fisher/Billups (and all the other crazy comparisons he's been receiving) ever were. No offense to those guys one bit. I think he's way too skilled of a player to be receiving those comparisons.

I don't know what his ceiling is. His game is being held back so much, so I can't make any judgement yet. I do know that he'd be doing damage in Philly the way Ish Smith is doing. The system and Byron Scott have wrecked his game here. Hell, it's wrecked everyone's game here.

2) Randle's ceiling is Larry Johnson. 20/10 guy in his peak, all-star. Didn't develop an outside shot until his 3rd season. Despite being undersized, he was an absolute bruiser inside and always found a way to score. I see Randle having that same motor, but not necessarily the athleticism.

3) Clarkson is Monta Ellis lite at the moment, though his 3 pt shooting is much better. Ellis was a slashing 25/5/4/2 guard in his peak. I see Clarkson having that same potential and speed.

Clarkson: poor man's Monta - pooooor man's Westbrook

Randle is an unique specimen, really hard to tell. Great rebounder, has so many holes to refine and some unique physical tools. Seems like someone willing to work hard to improve: head case - borderline franchise player

Nance: poor man's Austin Croshere - rich man's Robert Horry

Brown: Devean George - Rick Fox

Russell: rich man's Derek Fisher with no balls - poooor man's Curry

Black: laid back Ronny Turiaf - Kenneth Faried

Nash wasn't Nash after what, 5-7 years in the league and traded to Phoenix?

Then 3-time MVP? Depends on perception.

In my opinion, Lakers fans consistently undervalue Clarkson's value and potential. He is playing is the same Byron Scott system that everyone else is, but rarely gets mentioned in criticism towards him....but is often mentioned when discussing Randle and Russell's off nights. He is also playing alongside a crew of mismatched veterans and rookies, which has to effect his production.

He is 6'5", fairly athletic, and a has great attitude.

In a similar narrative, why is Nance always limited to a rotation type potential, why Randle is viewed as a future star? This may prove true, but Nance has a better mid range shot, is a much better athlete, and I think the sky should be the limit. My biggest fear is he seems to buy into this theory that he should just be happy to be on the team. I would love to see him come out and be really aggressive....think the results may even surprise him.

Clarkson has proven himself a scorer. I think Randle will be productive his entire career if he can stay healthy. I think Russell has the biggest potential to be a bust.

I think none of Clarkson, Russell or Randle have any chance at being a bust. That is ridiculous thinking. They may not live up to your expectations but they will NOT be busts.
