Quote:
Byron Scott on trial to save his job next season

It's been a rough couple of seasons for Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott. After the Lakers' worst year in franchise history, they have somehow taken a step back. All signs point to the Philadelphia 76ers leapfrogging the Lakers in the standings soon, at which point the recent boos for Scott will get even louder. Plenty of Lakers fans would be happy if he was fired, and the remainder of the season will reportedly determine whether or not that will happen or if he will keep his coaching job next season.

The LA Times reports: 'People close to the Lakers' organization think this season’s final 2½ months are a trial of sorts. It would help Scott’s chances if the young players showed growth and the games were more competitive. There has to be hope, not despair.'

Scott is expected to coach through the rest of the regular season, according to a person familiar with the situation, but even he realizes nine victories in 50 games is stretching the limits of acceptable reality.

"I would say, 'Nah, I think we would have a few more,'" Scott said. "I knew it was going to be tough because of all the youngsters that we have and I knew the learning curve was going to take time. I don't know what everybody else was thinking, but I didn't expect playoffs or nothing like that."

Back in December, it was reported that Scott would last the rest of the season. That still seems likely, even though his treatment of No. 2 pick D'Angelo Russell remains as puzzling as ever. He has the worst record of any coach in Lakers history, and this season Los Angeles' offense is almost as bad as its league-worst defense. No sane person believed the people in the organization who talked about competing for a playoff spot, but most didn't think they'd only win nine of their first 50 games, either.

With 32 games left, Scott is facing an uphill battle in terms of rebuilding his reputation. Stephen Jackson calling him "the worst communicator for young guys" last month certainly didn't help matters. Ironically, it appears the people who could save Scott are the ones he's been criticizing all year: Russell and Julius Randle. The Lakers are focused on the future, and Scott's main challenge is to show he's the right guy to help them develop.

UPDATE:

Quote:
People around the League expects Byron Scott won't be the Lakers' coach next season

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly do not plan to fire head coach Byron Scott in the middle of the season, but that does not mean that Scott's days in Los Angeles aren't numbered. After reporting last night that the Lakers have not wavered since a December report that they would not part ways with Scott during the 2015-16 campaign, Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News went on NBA TV to discuss the state of the Lakers, and things look less than sunny in Los Angeles.

During the appearance, Medina reiterated that while the Lakers plans to reevaluate Scott after the season have not changed, the rest of the league can see the writing on the wall and expects that the coach is not much longer for the Lakers head job.

"When I talk with a lot of people around the league the expectation is Byron Scott will not be the coach next season," Medina told NBA TV host Jared Greenberg. "But when you talk to the Lakers, they're saying he's definitely going to be here this season, and they are going to evaluate him this off-season."

So the 2 month trial didn't start 59 days ago?

I know I've been throwing you guys under the bus and all, but I meant no disrespect. Please help me keep my job.

Sometimes I wish we had Lebron "coach killer" James to set things right.

Two more months to piss off Randle, bury Tarik, and ruin Russell?

Thanks Lakers.

On the bright side if he continues to do that, he will for sure be gone.

The FO should tell him they will try him out for 20 games.

Is this a subliminal way of telling Byron to start the kids and develop them?

He's suddenly going to go from clueless to brilliant? Not likely! Sergeant Doakes (Byron Scott) is going to flamed into the swamp (Dexter reference)

ha ha yep!

Mitch should say to Byron: I'm gonna start you as Head Coach for the next, oh say 15-20 games. After that I'll review the lineup and think about some changes after that.

So what happens if they start to win, lose the pick, and Boron stays the next year. I think I'm gonna take an NBA hiatus and stick to Dodgers and Rams for awhile

ha ha we could only dream

but it will be interesting, now that there has finally been some open criticism and pressure on Byron, to see if he does make lineup changes? I don't expect him to knee-jerk suddenly reinstate DLo, but perhaps we might see something or at least rotation changes?

This is such pure "lets do something so it looks we're doing something while doing nothing" horse (bleep).

You don't need 32 games to "evaluate" BS, you know what he is. Everyone knows what he is. Stop waffling and fire his ass.God, just when I think this team can't get any more absurd.
