First off, my apologies if this has been discussed on other threads.
With this crappy season, crappy coach, crappy management and with a freed up large amount of cap space going into next season, do we really think the Lakers will be back on top anytime soon, can lure a solid free agent or superstar?
With Scott who I think is a terrible coach and not as respected as people think along with the Buss kids who are constantly throwing each other under the bus about future plans and who runs the organization, who would want to come here?
My dream is for the Buss' to sell the team, Magic and his partners buy it, get a top 5 coach, and then you can lure the right players to the team and bring back respect.
I guess what I am saying is, I know the Lakers are rebuilding, duh. I just don't think with this coaching and ownership the way it is currently constructed is going to lure any top free agent superstar to the franchise.
Call me pessimistic....
Thoughts? |

If Magic bought the team, he'd just keep Byron |

Which top 5 coach is available? What makes Magic a good owner? I am sure Dodger fans thought their luck had changed when the O'Malleys sold to Fox. Well it did, just not the way they thought it would. We have a management team that has won, replacing it with question marks gives you just that, question marks. And as someone has already posted, does anyone seriously think that Magic would fire Byron? _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

I don't think they need to sell the team to Magic, but they could give Magic a job similar to that of Phil's with NY. Jimbo can just sit in his castle and write the checks, and let someone with basketball knowledge actually plan a strategy. Magic being the face of the team could help Mitch plan and meet with FA and endorse the team. Give the assurance to players that this team will be a winner and that with him there can be no other alternative but championships.
I think SAS sort of mentioned this idea a few months back. The Lakers need a winning face that others can relate to, no some daddy's guy who's been a failure all of his life. |

Who cares if he did? (they got out early to the Mets last year anyways) His ties to Byron will influence him to keep Scott rather than hiring a different coach. |

Define Mediocre?
Seriously, I know they have not won the world series and but they have definitely improved from the McCourt days.
They have won the division consistently.
They have hired people who are highly respected with the MLB industry.
The coaching hires are not that bad.
Personally, that is not mediocre.
To be fair, I think the Angels are mediocre.
In comparison, the Lakers have gotten progressively worse.
Potentially, the Lakers will have the worse records in the NBA.
Secondarily, the coaching hires have been atrocious. |

Annual first round playoff exit, maybe second round in a good year. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Why? Magic was a disaster as a coach, what makes you think he could be a good personnel guy? Hope? We have a good personnel guy in Mitch, we just need people to stay out of his way. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Magic had nothing to do with the Dodgers other than being their public PR guy. No decision making, no ideas. So if the Dodgers blow up it isn't his fault, if they win the Series it isn't to his credit. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Magic is just a front man for Dodgers. he's not involve in any baseball decisions. he's job is to sell Dodgers and its new ownership to the LA fan base. |

Totally untrue! The Dodgers are trying to clean up years of crappy mismanagement, and waste with enormous contracts left over from the McCourt era. They are slowly building one of the best farm systems in baseball, that will bring young top caliber talent for years, with the ability to make trade trades that nobody can contest. They will be in the hunt for world championships for years.
Besides Magic is not a difference maker with the Dodgers he's just a lowly investor in a game that he doesn't understand. He's a non-factor in that arena. In a basketball situation that would be completely different.
JIMBO = McCourt |

Let Trump buy the team, he could fix it because he wins at everything (except the Iowa caucuses).
He's already got the perfect slogan for the job: "Make the Lakers great again". _________________ Jerry Buss made the Lakers into the crown jewel of the NBA. |

Magic as a personnel guy would be much like his tweets, he would see a highlight reel of someone and exclaim this guy is the real deal |

People slam management, coaching hires you can do that but they have been solid in drafting and solid in not throwing huge dollars and a guy who is worth just slightly over the med level and hamstrings your cap |

Who cares about cap space when they were going after players like Melo or Aldridge. Would this team be any better if one of those guys was here. The plan should have been to build a team strong enough to entice either KD or Westbrook when available, its a lost cause now. |

Magic as the public face of the team and on board with what the FO is doing would be a good thing. He is obviously charismatic, and he could be valuable as the public face. We all know Jeannie and Jim are not that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Dodgers are hardly mediocre. They're consistently one of 5 best teams in baseball. Winning a short playoff series in baseball can depend a lot on luck. That being said, Magic has very little to do with how good the Dodgers are. Stan Kasten is the one with the vision for the team. Friedman and Zaidi are smart people hand-picked to carry out that vision.
I do think the Lakers FO needs to get on the same page if they want to turn this thing around fast. |

No to Magic or any anything "old school" related. I'm tired of trying to hang on to short shorts. I want the organization to evolve and adapt. The analytics department was a good start, now lets go with a coach that sees the value in it.
Im not saying the coach has to be a big name, I would go with someone out there with a vision and not some guys who played with Magic or some brought in a fanny pack full of DVDs |

Magic has no organizational input on the Dodgers. He's as minority a minority owner can get. He's basically what Usher is to the Cavs, or Drake to the Raptors. |

Yup. Calling him part owner of the Dodgers is like calling yourself part owner of a Bentley because you chipped in for one of the hubcaps.
He doesn't have the chops to be more than a greeter for any professional sports team. |

I'd be happy if the Buss kids stepped out of the basketball decisions, they can keep the ownership, put Kupchak as Basketball VP and promote Ryan West to GM. As much as I love Magic, I believe he would be a disaster as an executive. _________________ .... |
