The backlash that is to come. I have him in my top 10. Curious to see their rationale for putting him out of the top 10. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

It's two spots out. Not really that big of a deal.
5th or 7th, 6th or 8th, 7th or 9th, 10th or 12th. How important is ESPN's opinion ultimately? For most people, I'd have to imagine very little. So why it matters suddenly now? Who knows. |

Nobody should be surprised by Kobe's ranking. ESPN has written more articles on Kobe than ANY other athlete since the inception of their site and the vast majority have been negatively slanted. |

Well, you have a very vocal group that would think anything outside of #1 is a crime. So imagine what #12 is to them. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I can see it now..
#1 is LeGOD
#2 is CURRY!!
#3 is DURANT
#4 is MJ
PER!!!!!!!!
Seriously though, I think Kobe at 10 or a little bit below is probably correct. |

I know. I guess we'll see important the opinion of ESPN is based on how this goes. |

I'm not surprised because I think most of the ESPN guys that voted has him as the Robin for the 1st three titles and Shaq as Batman. I have him ranked 8th. |

Except ESPN clearly did it to generate clicks and controversy, which is why it would be best to not feed the machine and let it die. If it's based on merit, accomplishments and impact on the game, I don't know anyone reputable who has him outside the top 10.
And what exactly would Kobe's ranking be if he went 2-6 in the finals? ESPN clearly has an obsession with another player who now isn't able to hold the torch as much as they'd like him to. They have to transition to someone else and they most likely hate every second of it. |

I'm not sure you understand how this works.
It doesn't matter where ESPN ranks Kobe. This list would generate clicks and controversy no matter where Kobe is ranked.
It's not about Kobe. It's about the top 100 players. No matter what order the put him in, someone will complain.

Players I have ranked ahead of Kobe.
Jordan
Kareem
Magic
Russell
Bird
Wilt
Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, and Hakeem could go in any order. I do believe Kobe get's overhyped by some Lakers fans, but he's definitely in most peoples top 10. |

For the life of me I can't understand why people care about how someone else ranks their players. Just because these people work for ESPN does not make them "right". It's a stupid list they make to get people all ramped up or excited for clicks and ratings. They'll make another one in a few years. These type of lists should get no more respect than the lists that Joe from the backwoods of Kentucky made while he was taking a (bleep). _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Interesting to consider who's probably left to be named
Jordan
Magic
Jabbar
Russell
Bird
Chamberlain
Duncan
LBJ
Shaq
Olajuwon
That's 6 who clearly are better, 1 that's fractionally better, 2 that might nominally be - or nominally aren't, and Olajuwon who's in the same ball park
You could probably take LBJ, Shaq, Olajuwan, Oscar R, and Kobe - put their names on pingpong balls, toss in the Powerball mixing machine, and whichever name popped out 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc --- well, those results would probably be nominally valid
then you could repeat that drawing 5 more times, and those results would probably be nominally valid too.
personally, I usually rank Kobe #8 after the big 6 and TD - and very very fractionally before Shaq and Oscar. But there's not much truly valid argument that you couldn't mix&match most of them (7-12) interchangeably on that list in any order and still be "right" _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

ESPN has gone from being the premier sports media outlet to the National Enquirer of sports journalism. Besides 30 for 30 their entire organization is a joke! |

Controversial topics are guaranteed to generate more clicks than non-controversial topics. If person A thinks the ranking is an outrage, you don't think he's going to let others know? Social media eats these kind of things up. If it's status quo, it won't be as impactful. |
