he is likely in grade school currently....nobody currently playing has came close to pulling the amount of emotion (love/hate) out of fans as Kobe did for 20 years. This tour is not about simple greatness, it is a chance for fans and foes to demonstrate respect for a great champion exiting the arena.
Every fan that lives beyond Southern California knows that in their city there is always someone within 100 yards that absolutely "loves" Kobe, someone that absolutely "hates" Kobe, and not a single soul that is on the fence.

Tim Duncan may be better than Kobe as a basketball player( at least in some people's eyes), but he is no where near Kobe in terms of popularity, look at the history of NBA all star voting
That has nothing to do with him deserving one. He is one of the all time NBA greats, he deserves it. Though it doesn't seem to be his style. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Thread has nothing to do with who deserves one. Thread is about who would get one at the same level Kobe is getting. And mad55557777 is right, Kobe beats Duncan by a mile in popularity. Duncan wouldn't get the same love Kobe is getting by fans.

The topic was whether anyone would get the same level of respect as Kobe, and I am just saying there is no way Duncan can be as popular as Kobe in anywhere other than San Antonio.

That wasn't the question.
The NBA's most popular player right now after Mamba is clearly Steph.
Any true superstar that plays for the Lakers is likely gonna get a huge retirement tour. We have the biggest fan base in sports along with the Dallas Cowboys. If we get Simmons or one of Clarkson, Randle, or D-LO goes on to have an all time great career they will probably be getting one too. _________________ #CowboysNation

For the past decade, I think Lebron has been more liked than Kobe (though this year is certainly the exception... almost bandwagon love now). Yes, Lebron has alienated many. But Kobe was still more polarizing. And championships aside, you can argue that Lebron's sheer physical talent and skill are above Kobe's (not that he is the "greater" player).
But, I doubt Lebron gets this kind of farewell. First, this is not the kind of thing the NBA and fans can stomach very often. It had been long enough since the last time. So folks roll with it. Lebron isn't too far behind in the "hanging them up" line unless he surprises us all with longevity. And, Lebron will likely not play as many years (and not as many championships). Also, Lebron has jumped between teams during his prime. And the majority of his years will not be with the team with whom he won the most (championships). Dr. J, after the merger, was with only one team. KAJ played more years with LA than Milwaukee, and won a lot in LA.
All that is to say, I'd be surprised if its in the cards for Lebron, even if he has been fairly well liked and will have had an all-time type career when its all said and done. _________________ "We got a new universe coming and he's going to control all our universes. Hopefully no one. For the most part it's been tough for me to watch.

I think Duncan is going to quietly retire after this season if the Spurs don't win the championship. (And he might even if they do.) With Golden State so clearly dominant and potentially getting Durant, doubt he wants to go through the grind of another year. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Meh, I don't think that anyone has to "ask" for a farewell tour. If someone announces their retirement before the season, they'll get their due respect, especially if it's a universal figure like Duncan, Lebron, or Curry.
True. It's rare for a star to announce he's going to retire at the conclusion of the season. Most of them decide that at the end of the season.
