Holy (bleep)

Quote:
Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa.
According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.
Chief U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia, of the Western Judicial District of Texas, was notified about the death from the U.S. Marshals Service.
U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.

Oh, wow. RIP. Despite his penchant for controversial comments, and even though I disagree with many of his views, he was a great jurist.

This does create some mind blowing political issues, for sure. Holy bleep indeed.

Still feels very hoax-like...just without the requisite Onion article.

More and more confirmations coming in. Wow.

So if Trump wins, make way for Judge Judy to be nominated.

Scalia's replacement will be named soon, they won't be able to delay it for 11 months. Even after confirmation hearings it will probably be done before the end of the year.

RIP. It seems like he was not well liked by the general public though; he was close with RBG so there's one redeeming quality.

A Judge Judy sighting.

I expect a woman or a person of color to be appointed. A liberal for sure.

My first remembrance of Scalia is connected to Hurricane Carter.

RIP

They could. Even if it is just politics, there is a good deal of rhetorical force behind having the next Justice selected by an "accountable" President and an "accountable" Senate.

I could absolutely see the GOP controlled Senate refusing to vote on confirmation in hopes of dribbling out the clock in case a Republican gets elected in November. Everything they've done since Obama became president points to it.

He was a horrible man and I'm certainly glad he won't be serving in his role anymore. I guess the question now is can a confirmation be delayed for a whole year?

I feel bad for the other justices, who by all accounts are close to one another.

This is a quote from an article just posted from USA Today.

Quote:
President Obama could nominate a candidate to fill the vacancy, but winning confirmation by the Republican-controlled Senate in an election year would be difficult. The opening undoubtedly will fuel at debate in the presidential campaign about the importance of choosing his successor on a closely divided court.

No, I wouldn't expect Obama to appoint a liberal. I would expect a well respected moderate. He won't want to give the GOP any easy excuses for blocking the confirmation. This could finally put the public spotlight on the GOP's refusal to confirm large numbers of non-controversial lower court judges.

Mitch McConnell is probably stocking up on Alka Seltzer.

Ted Cruz just sent this tweet out.

Justice Scalia was an American hero. We owe it to him, & the Nation, for the Senate to ensure that the next President names his replacement.

Wow. RIP Honorable Scalia.

This totally opens the Door for Ruth Bader Ginsburg to go ahead and retire without it weighing on her conscience.

I'd bet the odds are great that Jackie Nguyen is one of the nominees, to become the first Asian on the Court.

Going to be very interesting to see which road Obama chooses in an election year where many were thinking of their Presidential choices with the Supreme Court clearly in mind.

Interesting timing for god to call one of his soldiers home.
