A friend of mine, who clerked on the Court, made a joke that Judge Srinivasan "handed in his application" to the Court after he ruled against protestors arrested on the Court's steps.

Shouldn't this be "a time for healing," and not for political commentary.

Abortion, immigration, unions, health care law -- all SCOTUS issues coming this year. The court is now 4-4. Obama -- over to you.

Would be unprecedented in recent history for SCOTUS to go year with vacancy. And shameful abdication of our constitutional responsibility.

These (bleep) already ... the impunity with which they operate, it's an absolute outrage. Mouthbreathers like McConnell and Cruz don't even attempt to conceal their (bleep)-off views of the world (e.g., if Scalia had passed in February of 2008, you can bet your ass that it would have been perfectly appropriate in the minds of these self-righteous bastards for #43 to plant a replacement nominee on the bench) ... is to too much to ask for all of them to just STFU already?

The (bleep) audacity of rounding errors like these chickenhawks ...

Wow stunner. Didn't agree with much he said but no doubt he was a brilliant legal mind. Now the senate needs to do its job for once. Obama will nominate a liberal to moderate judge and we'll all be better off if that nominee is approved.

This will be fascinating to watch. Will Obama hand the Republicans their ass politically as he has repeatedly done in his 7+ years? He could even do a recess appointment as Eisenhower did multiple times.

Agree that he was a horrible human. Due to his strict interpretation of the Constitution, he was a bigot to his death. He never evolved and his mindset was frozen in time. It's unfortunate that such a narrow minded Justice held the country back for so many years with his archaic views.

Considering that the mouthpieces wasted literally not even an hour before declaring their "war posture" re: a nomination, a recess appt during the next 9 days would make a great deal of sense. It's not like anything was going to get done this year anyway, so why would a lame duck even care about ruffling a few feathers.Heck, if Ginsburg announced a retirement on Tuesday, make both appointments and the next President won't matter nearly as much over the long haul.

The worst thing Obama can do is nominate anything close to a moderate. No one is going to get confirmed anyway, so the plan should be 1) find the most left leaning liberal legal scholar/judge you can find, nominate him/her and then let him/her get rejected and then 2) nominate a left leaning centrist and let the Republican congress try to reject that person. If they reject that second person too (who, by all accounts, would look like a compromise compared to the first choice), great talking point for the elections come next November.... it will just make Congress look at dysfunctional as it really is.

I will be pissed if Obama nominates a moderate. That's still better than Scalia but a freaking waste of an opportunity. I could see Hilary nominating moderates. No way Bernie would, which is another reason he has my vote. Time to swing the Court to the other direction. A Supreme Court Justice is more important than any one President.

He seems to forget that Reagan appointed Anthony Kennedy within an election year. Gotta sat one thing for the GOP, they are nothing buy consistent when it comes to hypocrisy and double standards.

I'm not aligned with any party but really the GOP is so dysfunctional and hypocritical if I vote would vote democrat this year just because. The gamble is if GOP forces delay till next president and a democrat wins better chance to get a more liberal justice instead of a moderate one now. Wow this is a big year, voting has never been more important. I think a Hillary/Bernie or Bernie/Hillary ticket will beat any republican.

This one is good as well:

As I attempted to write something nice about Justice Antonin Scalia, Twitter's 140 character limit suddenly seemed enormous.
