if the lakers make the playoffs don't they lose their first round pick?

if the lakers have their first round pick next year, who do you think is a good and realistic pick for them?

No they don't lose it. Everyone has one just later in the draft.

Lakers lose their pick if it's outisde of the Top 10 picks. Most likely to occur. They do, however, have Miami's 1st rounder (23-26 range) and our own 2nd rounder.

Yeah, he has to go to college for atleast a year because of the CBA. Then again he had always figured on going in the first place.

So you are saying we shouldn't really start to suck until next year...

Da Ocho is right, this year's draft is not going to be very good but there will be some nice players to be had in the 2nd round.

I wouldn't mind a first round pick of Mardy Collins, Hilton Armstrong, Marcus Williams or maybe one of the 'Nova tweener guards, and a second round pick of Dee Brown, JP Batista or Torin Francis, depending on who the first round went to.

With Laron coming back and the improved post presence of Kwihm, AB, Turiaf and Cook, we'll have a modest amount of talent at all of our role player positions. Given how shallow this draft is and our position in it, it'd be pretty hard to find any significant talent upgrades. This draft will be more about some depth than anything else.

I think we just need some depth at point playing high-energy D with consistent range that can also give Kobe a breather at the 2 (I think Mardy, the Nova guards, Marcus Williams or Dee Brown would be good fits there*). If we could get some a developed big man like Armstrong out of that tremendous UConn big man machine, I'd be pretty stoked about the coming season.

Who knows, if we can make strides this season and next with AB, Kwihm, Lamar, The Smushie and get a quality backup tweener guard (and Cook to become Horry incarnate)...the '07 Plan might just be to pick up two talented contributors rather than one star. David West should show the potential benefit from developing your players, patiently but consistently.

* The devil on my shoulder wants to see what Guillermo Diaz's freakish athleticism can do as a backup guard. The guy is like a 6'2 version of the Matrix.

There won't be any 18 year old H.S. players in this draft. They all have to wait a year. The draft will be thin.

The reality of the draft is what it is. The Lakers have to deal with it.
