It'll probably be 2 max players and fillers...Lakers may have to negotiate with JC if the want to keep him or then let him become a FA. If the later is true, then you could possibly look at 3 Max guys...I know DeRozen & Whiteside will be targets and hopefully the FO does not waste time waiting for KD, he's not coming and the wait could cost another part while him walking elsewhere or staying inOKC anyway...

Clarkson's QO is 2.7 meaning u can shop 1st and then pay him upto 12m or whatever u want
Cap # for 1-3 is 4m
again black's QO is 1.1

so my numbers are right

Jim, thanks for clarifying the shop first part of you're comment, I hadn't given it much thought but that does open a door for the 3rd Max...maybe Barnes if the FO wants to wait out a RFA or maybe Bantum...

This is tough because of the variables.

Primarily - are the lottery balls kind and who do they pick? Does the SF position get filled or ?? It changes quite a bit if they do. If not , can they choose to pick a Center? Those are the two biggest needs to move forward IMO.

First idea: Conley, DeRozan, Ezeli (RFA) with SF drafted

Another: Trade #3 pick. Draft Poeltl or Stone and a perimeter player for depth.
FA- Derozan, Barnes (RFA) and Noah for a couple years to mentor defense to young guys

Could continue on with all the options.

Derozan+ Whiteside, Find a holder(s) like Hibbert for rest so we can jump at 2017 free agency.

Draft: Simmons/Ingram/Dunn

If we pick Dunn then trade Lou.

I would merge this with the 379 pages in the 2016 free agency thread.

Based off how I play NBA 2K. I would start by offering Whiteside slightly less than max and derozan as well, trying to get cute and snag another good player or two. Wait three days for their decision only to find out they didn't sign with me and then panic and sign the best players (75-79 OVR) regardless if they fill any needs and then slap myself after and say better luck next year.

Fwiw Batum is getting 25m offers from lots of teams. That's not a bad lineup. I like Batum but I just don't see the lakers offering over 100m to him.

When Durant tells them no they will have to spend money on a SF. Batum will be the best available.

Following the lakers for over 30 years Batum doesn't strike me as a guy the lakers would max. He's a really really great role player but lakers don't usually pay a max for that.

Batum is getting 25m offer.

I doubt lakers will offer clarkson 18m a year. More like 11-12m at most and only if we miss out on our top free agents.

The Lakers, like every other NBA team, will have to pay market value for who they want. If it is Batum, they will pay what the market bears.

That's stating the obvious of course.

Following the Lakers for 40 years and they have never had $61 mil in cap space. They will either pay market value for who they want, or they will pay the price and take a chance on another horrible season. If Batum is there and they want him, they will pay market value to sign him.

Derozan max
H Barnes max
Miles Plumlee $10 mil start for 4 years.

Two young wings and I think Plumlee would be great on a young up tempo team. I liked him at Phoenix, just not fitting with Milwaukee. Need to overpay a bit as he is an RFA.

Thank you for the profound analysis of "if we want him we will pay fmv value for him."
