He just had the most ingenious play of the season. Lakers should consider keeping him around next season. At the very least, he's a good back-up/third string player who can provide solid PnR play for 4-5 min.
he's no better than a third stringer though, he cant really shoot nor defend, we need a backup pg who can play some d as a complement to dlo and jc

He has a good FG% for someone unable to shoot the rock

Ronnie Price!
I agree with our backup needing to play d but we need a real Pg at that spot. Right now we have two combo guards eating up the majority of the minutes and Clarkson is a black hole. Russel is really good when he can just concentrate on scoring so we need someone who can get him the ball.
The perfect 3rd string guard IMO
Plays defense
Pass first
Quick enough to keep up with The small guards JC and Russ can't.
Can knock down spot up jumpers

At some point that player stops being a 3rd stringer.

I think you're mixing up the terms 3rd string guard and 3rd guard. 3rd guard is first off the bench and we need that guy to be what you explained. Won't be able to get a 3rd string guard much better than Huertas IMO.
Couldn't catch the game, how was Huertas ? On highlights he seemed good, but I assume that he was still the same "can pass / can't shoot / can't defend" player ? My question is : was he more effective than Calderon ?

He was healthier than Calderon, I am not sure about the rest. He works with guys who can finish, and is more apt to play well offensively with the starting unit than the bench unit. I don't think he and Lou are a good pairing. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
There are a few players they should consider: Gary Payton II, Julian Jacobs. Haven't watched enough d-league this season, but I love those two guards in terms of defensive potential. Here's a GPII interview on defense:
The Grizzles and Spurs always seem to find d-league gems that defend well. Lakers don't even want to explore that area. Don't know what the deal is with the Lakers FO. Their drafting has been on point, but they can't find one solid defender anywhere? And why even cut Brown? SMH.
