According to RealGM, Chic and Cle are talking about a Gooden deal.

I'd send Smush, Cook, Slava, and a 1st for him anyday!

In other words....Mitch should be on the phone now

Gooden has been on the block his whole career. We collected enough of those type of players already. Pass

I kinda like Gooden. He seems a bit underrated and could be a solid double double guy, though he makes some bone headed plays.

We just don't have what it would take to get him though. Cleveland is looking for a solid point guard and we don't have one.

Gooden is better than any of our PFs.

He schooled Lamar and Kwame. 11 pts/9 reb/ 53% FG in 28 minutes ain't bad at all. 6'10" 250 is not "undersized."

Yeah but he's the smallest 6'10" PF in the league.

Gooden is as undersized at PF as Lamar is. In fact, Lamar is a better man defender at the 4 than Gooden. He's a SF in a PF body, like Lamar, only he doesn't have the strength to guard opposing 4s, or the handles to play the 3.

And Logo drafted him 3rd!!! What a waste.

Edit: 4th, my bad.

Gooden may have a Kwame like body, but he doesn't have any strength.

Gooden is definitely better than any PF on our roster. He's providing 11 & 9 as the fourth option in Cleveland. With his solid FT% and work in the low post, it's not hard to imagine him being an 18-20 ppg player if made into a second option (something I believe he's capable of). He'd probably give you double-digits in rebounding as well (but I doubt if he'd ever be considered "dominant" in that facet.

There are legit issues concerning a Laker attempt to acquire him:

1) Defense: Simply put, dude hasn't been strong in this area. He ain't as bad as 'Toine or Zach Randolph, but nearly as good as you'd like to see. Not sure if it's a lack of ability or motivation. As is the case with most NBA players, it's probably the latter;

2) He's schedule to become a restricted FA this summer. As he's a likely double-double guy that primarily works in the low post, it's forseeable that he'd get an offer (where someone is likely to overpay) and he'll be ghost. I'm sure this is why the Cavs have been shopping him since the beginning of the season; and,

3) It's rumored that the Cavs are interested in getting a PG for Gooden. The Lakers can't help them.

I think an explanation for this comment is in order.

When you're the 4th option on a team that features two explosive scorers (LBJ and Larry Hughes) and a solid center (Z), I think it's fair to say that, scoring-wise, you haveto make due with whatever attempts you get.

As for inconsistency in the rebounding area, I just don't see it. It's not like Gooden is grabbing 20 boards one night and 3 the next.

Gooden's body, in no way, shape, or form, resembles that of Kwame.

As for the remark about Gooden being a SF trapped in a PF's body, his offensive work in the low post might lead to a different conclusion.

Defensively, he has issues.

LO has postup ability. Doesn't make him a 4 by any stretch of the imagination though. Gooden doesn't really "post up" anyhow. He catches the ball in the post, sure. But once he has it there, he faces up and either shoots or makes a quick dribble move to the basket.

But I do agree with you on the "inconsistency" issues. He's a consistent player, just doesn't consistent opportunities. However, he plays worse D at the 4 than LO. So yeah, he'll score 15-20 points some nights, but give up 20+ NIGHTLY.

This is the important question. If we can trade Kwame + Miami for Gooden, and still keep top the 2007 plan, I'm down. Other trades imvolving ending contracts: George + Slava etc. or Cook+George+1 are all fine too.

Give up Smush? Well, I would make that trade too, because I think Smush is replaceable, but we would definatly have to make another trade for a PG.

The crucial question again tho is contract. He must expire in 2007 or be very cheap.

btw, I think he meant that Gooden resembled Kwame's body in the sense that he's muscular and strong "looking". However, he simply isn't.
