Quote: | Rookie forward Ronny Turiaf will officially receive his work visa today and is eligible to play tonight for the Lakers.
Turiaf, a French citizen who signed with the Lakers on Jan. 17, has not been able to play because he has only a student visa. |

I bet he will. He'll probably play more than Bynum! I cannot (bleep) wait! _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

I hope he gets some minutes. Let's see what he can do against some of the Mavericks' backup bigs. |

I really can't see him logging more than ten minutes. And let's not get ahead of ourselves here - Turiaf has never played one single minute of NBA ball, was a 2nd round pick to start with AND is a mere 7 months removed from major OPEN HEART SURGERY.
Let that sink in before you expect Turiaf to contribute much this season. We are truly scraping the bottom of the barrell hoping for Turiaf to give us much this season. Let's just hope he turns out to be as good as Etan Thomas in a few years. _________________ "Why do you think bad things happen, anyway???" "So we have something good to look forward to."

When I saw Turiaf's reactions, on the bench.... I just got this feeling that Rony is ready and rarin' to go!!... I remember reading the reports, of Turiaf's preseason games... I think he's ready to contribute, if only with his intensity, and the way he can lift his fellow teammates. _________________ "Teamwork is a nebulous thing. how about a report regarding how he's been doing in practice before we get all worked up about a game? |

You guys are so pessimistic. Of course we haven't seen Turiaf play. But what we all like is his energy and intensity. And really, what else do we have to look forward to after losing Odom, Mihm, and lopsided losses to Indiana, Charlotte and New Orleans? |

I don't have the link (but I think I read it in LA times) but Jackson said he wasn't going to play Turiaf yet, even after he was eligible. I think he said he needed more practices first. He also said Bynum wouldn't be getting more minutes, despite the injury to Mihm and Odom. |

I don't think Phil has a choice but to give Turiaf some minutes tonight with Odom and Mihm out. I think Ronnie will get at least 5-10 minutes against the Mavs. |

Ronny's body and mind might be ready...but his experience ? Well, that's another story. |

He doesn't need experience to know to hustle out there-which is his game. Hell, if he can just bang, keep people off the boards, and switch properly on his man, he'll be invaluable already. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

I read the same thing about Phil not using him yet. He said he had only had a few practices with the B team and didn't know the offense yet. I think I will have to TiVo this one and peek at it from time to time. If I try to watch it I will be up all night grinding my teeth _________________ Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. |

Considering we're out 2 bigs right now, of course Ronny's going to play. Phil indicated as much yesterday. I'm pretty excited because while we should all expect mistakes from him, his energy (something lacking during those quarters where we typically get crushed) can be very contagious. Heck, many of our losses are the direct result of sluggish starts and sluggish 3rd quarters. Ronny can definitely aid in that department because he's "all-go, all the time". |

He's not a typical rookie of today in the sense that he has a lot of college ball experience under his belt. He's not as green as say, well, Devin Green. LOL. |

Check this out:
ROOKIE REPORT
With the Lakers almost surely to have three injured players for their inactive list (Slava Medvedenko and Aaron McKie are already hurt), it's expected rookie Ronny Turiaf will suit up for his first Lakers game.
Turiaf, who underwent heart surgery July 26, isn't likely to play; Jackson has so little intention of using Turiaf that Jackson hasn't even gotten a gauge on Turiaf's endurance.
Turiaf was away from the team in recent days to finalize the transfer of his student visa into a work visa. Assuming he finishes his paperwork this morning in Toronto, he is expected to arrive in Dallas today.
With Turiaf, Devin Green, Andrew Bynum and Von Wafer, the Lakers would have four rookies in uniform, or one third of their active roster.

So as you can see, it's mixed opinions all in one. Will he? Won't he? Who the heck knows. I'm betting he will because we need that post defense, a little scoring, and his boundless energy. |

Phil will like him, he just doesn't know it yet which seems odd. You can't get into NBA shape without playing time, besides he will be playing a reserve role for the remainder of this season. _________________ Started posting on Lakersground when it was lakers/rivals.com since Aug.2000. |
