Luke is probably the most likeable coach we have had since Phil Jackson. I think that makes it difficult to see how inept he is. Sigh.

he needs to surround himself with better coaches. his entire coaching staff is crap.

no experience nothing. B Shaw is just terrible with his defensive schemes

It's one thing to be likeable and friendly to players. It's another to be a coward and not hold a player(s) accountable when they are the real corporates making the worst mistakes (JC and Randle tonight). Instead, he just benches everyone because he's too afraid of the player not liking him anymore if he singles them out.

Except DLO, apparently it's ok to (bleep) on him even when's not at fault.

Poach Ron Adams. The Lakers have a gazillion dollars, overpay for any and every person who can help the Lakers. Offer Adams $3.5M/ year. Tell me he wouldn't take that. Less money than Luke so the pecking order isn't subverted.

Or get some other defensive coordinator. We need help, Shaw is not cutting it.

He did though. He let the starters out of the doghouse in accordance with how bad they were in the 2nd. I liked the movie. You punish the entire lineup, but you also let people know of their individual culpability.

I get that he wanted to send a message, but he should have done something more creative then put out a terrible bench lineup to start the half. He probably should have put Robinson in earlier when Jordan was destroying us on the glass as well.

I don't disagree but he chose his staff. He didn't inherit anyone I don't think.

thats what i am saying. because he was a rookie coach, Mitch should have stepped in and ask to go with more experience coaches.

I'm not up in arms with the move in the context of the game, but I'm side-eying it a bit from the perspective of Luke holding the guys' effort in question like that but he's clearly not putting out his best players or lineups either... if he's not totally trying to win a game as a coach, why should the players?

All-out tanking like this sucks. But I get it.

That i agree.

What happened to our shooting staff in recent years? We used to make guys like Ariza turn into instant knockdown shooters.

Now it's somehow the other way around.

I've spoken about this dissonance as well. Yeah, it (bleep) sucks. I was saying in the Russell thread how I hadn't seen him this bad on defense in a long while... but the entire game was garbage time for him except the first 12 min he played (since it was that bench lineup in the 2nd that let the lead balloon to 25). Like, why should he play hard on defense?

...but you're a professional. Your job is to go out and compete. It's only really hypocritical if Luke is lambasting them for losing, as opposed to not competing. But to his credit, Luke praises them when the team competes and they lose anyways. But that didn't happen today.

has any coach in history ever said something like "we lost the game today in the 2nd when I played a horrible lineup for 6 straight minutes, then started the 2nd half with third stringers for 7 more"?

Mike Malone is pretty good about taking the blame when he makes mistakes.

Luke actually did stuff like this when the season started, when he made a mistake

We need a better defensive assistant and an ace shooting coach like badly.

I wish we could somehow get Ingram to workout with Dirk Nowitzki's shooting coach. I think he could do wonders with BI.

We do need a better coaching staff.
The Lakers are the world's greatest franchise. We have infinite money.
Just hire the BEST assistant coaches, really. Our defense and shooting are the worst I've ever seen.

They give up the highest FG percentage in the league defensively.

That is a death stat, you can't win like that.

Luke was not hired by this front office, he may not be as secure as many think. I would give him one more season, but honestly he has done a terrible job this year.

Next season imo he is on hot seat. Whether we upgrade talent or not. He has to show he can elevate what we have.

Yeah, players definitely love the dude and he seems to be able to make his point with refs and has the right pedigree for offense but a lot of what this team showed the first twenty games hasn't really improved incrementally and the defense is Byron bad.

Honeymoon is over.

But hotseat? Way too soon.

He got saddled with a total rebuild team. Give him some vets who can play.

He should have hired vet assistant coaches who are good teachers. Instead he got all his buddies and his failed ex teammate
