This idea is certainly a long shot but how about Jimmy Butler, Tony Snell, 2016 CHI 2nd for 2016 LAL 1st (Top 3 overall, i.e. Ingram/Dunn/Hield/Bender), re-signed Jordan Clarkson (~$10M/yr), Lou Williams/Nick Young?
2016-2017
Russell/Felder**
DeRozan/Williams/LeVert*
Butler/Brown/Snell
Randle/Nance
Whiteside/Bass/Sacre
*2016 LAL 2nd, #32 overall (Caris LeVert, Michigan)
**2016 CHI 2nd, #44 overall (Kay Felder, Oakland)
Butler clearly doesn't fit the pace/spacing of Hoiberg's system, which may suit players like Clarkson, Hield and Williams/Young a bit better... not to mention Butler's indiscreet disdain for his head coach (whose seat appears to be safe for the next few rebuild years in CHI). This would make a lot of sense if CHI, now out of the playoff picture and set to lose Noah and likely Pau to free agency, would want to expedite the rebuilding process by now holding 2 of the top 15 picks in this upcoming draft (Hield + Labissiere/Poeltl?). Adding Clarkson would also provide insurance at the PG position behind Rose who has missed at least 15+ games each of the last 4 seasons, and who simply wouldn't yield as much in return as Butler would. Lurking on RealGM, Bulls fans clearly don't see Butler as a star to build around (or having the kind of marketability to attract other FAs), but rather as a mere complimentary piece... which would be great for the Lakers if you surround that piece with Russell, DeRozan, Randle and Whiteside. Several posters there also stated they'd be open to the idea of Butler for Russell + our Top 3 pick (which we DESPERATELY need to keep), so perhaps they'd be open to Clarkson instead if the price is right... which at ~$10M/yr could be an absolute steal considering the expected salary cap increases over the next few years. _________________ In Rob I trust. |

I doubt it will happen, but they would win MORE games than last year!

My ideal scenario is a pre-arranged sign-and-trade deal that gets finalized after signing Durant and Horford:
Pick, Clarkson, Lou for Butler, Noah with Clarkson and Noah getting roughly $12 million deals.
Draft Levert at #32
Room exception on Kevin Martin
Stretch (or dump ideally) Young
Re-sign Huertas and Black
Horford, Noah, Black
Randle, Nance
Durant, Brown
Butler, Martin, Levert
DLO, Huertas
You alternatively could start Noah and have Randle come off the bench. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit) |
