I hear all the Byron talk, in my mind Mitch Kupchak has just as much or more responsibility for where the team is at.

Which is currently 16-63.

A simple poll, yes or no and you can comment if you want.

Wait, so you want to get rid of the only guy in the room who knows how to run a ballclub?

Nope.

Kupchak built a more talented team of the past 2 years.

Scott sunk it down.

No. I don't blame Mitch for coaching decisions because Mitch is not the one who signs off on coaching decisions. Jim Buss does.

From a draft perspective, since Randle I've been content with every single one of our picks. Although the jury still remains on Anthony Brown. (His contract is so cheap that I think he's worthy of investment)

From a free agent perspective - I fault mitch for a couple things. In the year we chased Melo & Lebron, we had an opportunity to get Lowry. We didn't go after him. We had an opportunity to get Isiah Thomas. I remember he wanted to play in LA - we didn't go get him.

However, every GM has their screwups. As much as some guys like Morey or Presti are glorified, I've watched them make more than their fair share of mistakes.

The problem with the Lakers is a lack of direction. We want a quick fix & we want to rebuild. We have a stop gap coach currently who every fan knows isn't the solution. Our talent is young and has shown potential but is far from there yet.

I don't think introducing instability by firing Mitch is going to either A) Lure more free agents or B) Produce more trades or good draft picks. You're introducing further instability. If anything Mitch is well respected around the league by players and agents.

The Lakers need to move on from Byron. Get a coach they can stick with for at least 3 years. I don't think they need to do thaaaat much to get to 30--35 wins next year.

Who are we gonna hire? Bryan CoAngelo? Billy King? Sean Marks? Yeah, I'd MUCH rather keep Mitch, thanks.

I'm not gonna blame Mitch for hiring bad coaches. That's on Jimbo and siblings.

Pretty much. You see the talent we've accumulated, none of it has seemed to work together. And it's not Kobe's fault.

Pelicans and bending us over right now with a vastly inferior team-- no AD, no Jrue, no Tyreke, no Anderson, no Gordon. Literally their 5 best players are all out, we're as healthy as possible, and we're down 20.

Is that Mitch's fault?

That, IMO, is essentially the story of this season.

I'd rather focus on replacing our weak links in the organization. I never understood the fans who see us losing and feel like gutting the entire franchise like a fish is a solution. Mitch is a solid GM. I feel like Jimmy should just sign the damn checks. Nothing more. But Mitch is too much of a team player to accept anything less than equal blame.

Getting up to speed with analytics/sports medicine would be a good start. The new training facility couldn't hurt either.

Then of course there's the obvious, coaching.

They can't be replaced. They're all part of the BFT (Buss Family Trust).

You don't think the KFT has had any part in sinking this ship?

Mitch is not the reason were losing. He's drafted great over the last two years. Were losing because of Byron's awful system and the KFT.

Mitch Kupchak is tied with shackles. He's done good in the past but this current direction has too much Buss family intervention (Jeanie's extension, Jim's coaching choices, etc). His current staff has Ryan West which I like.

Let him do his thing without the Buss family bothering him.

This is another one I don't understand. Jeanie has been sitting at the same desk for decades. Thru Laker dominance. Jimmy was added to the equation and it's been all bad ever since. He's the guy that imposed his own deadline and Jeanie has done exactly what Laker fans have been begging for. Which is holding him accountable.

Yup. Give Mitch (and Ryan West) free reign and we'll be fine.

I'm with this side of the resistance.
