Dwight needed Phil back in 2013 but we gave him D'Antoni.
They probably could, but that's not the ideal player you want as a mentor to the young core. I still would rather have Howard at max then DeRozan.

Dwight doesn't have a best to get.

The last thing Dwight wanted or needed was Phil Jackson - a coach whose toughness and mind games would have sent Dwight running in most Cowardly fashion.

If the young core has championship character... they will lead Dwight not the other way around. 20 year old Magic wouldn't let Dwight drag him down... he'd schmooze and coddle Dwight to get the best out of him.

The worst case scenario is that we still have an "asset" to trade to the next chump... and if we could unload Bynum... we certainly can get rid of Dwight even if he has a mediocre season.

The best case is that he grows up a little and has a few good productive years on our way back to the playoffs.

The odds of Ezeli or Biyombo even the unproven Whiteside leading us to the playoffs seem significantly lower.

Whiteside is 26 and just entering his prime, big difference.

Hypothetical, let's say we strike out on Whiteside, Horford, and Biyombo, and Dwight can't get the long term deal he wanted. His agent call up and say hey, Dwight wants to rebuild his image with a young, up and coming team, he's willing to sign a one year deal for 20 million. What do you say?

I'd go for a less talented center before I consider Dwight. Lakers have to get this right this time: after 3 bad years we really can't screw around anymore. I don't believe Dwight can change his spots at this point in his career: basically Pass.

After his last interview I read I would say no. He's a mental midget and will drag our young guys down.

It was so bizzare reading Howard talk about the Lakers situation.

It almost seemed like he tried to make it work with LA but realized he wasn't as big of a star to get whatever he wanted.

I would only sign Dwight to clean Sacres shoes.

He didn't want to be part of the team when Kobe was here. Now, because of his disrespect to Kobe; hell no to Coward.

I'd rather suffer through another sub 20 win season that watch that complete waste of human flesh in a Lakers uniform. If that would happen, even for the league minimum, it would be an instant sign that Mitch needed to go immediately and that the Busses did not deserve the team.

Whiteside or Dwight plus Derozan = bottom 4 record. Whiteside lost his starting spot to Amare's corpse this year. Put him with a bunch of turnstiles and its 25 wins at best.

Horford is a better fit. Better at setting off ball screens for our new offense. Whiteside is an overrated analytical darling like Kanter.
