PostPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2016 8:32 am    Post subject: Official 2016 NBA Playoff Discussion Thread

Even though the Lakers aren't competing this year I still love watching playoff basketball and it's always been a tradition of mine to binge watch all 8 games on the first weekend. Unfortunately I'm a lot busier now so I can't do that anymore but I wanted a thread to talk about the games with fellow LGers. Hoping for some big upsets and surprise winners.

**Mods I didn't know whether this thread would be better suited for here or the General Basketball forum so please move if you want

Game times are in PDT.

Game 1 - Thursday, Cavaliers at Warriors, 6 p.m. on ABC
Game 2 - Sunday, Cavaliers at Warriors, 5 p.m. on ABC

Game 5* - June 13, Cavaliers at Warriors, 6 p.m. on ABC
Game 6* - June 16, Warriors at Cavaliers, 6 p.m. on ABC

The East matchups are all pretty intriguing. In the West really only Portland/Paperclips is. Without Bosh the Hornets definitely have a shot at the upset over the Heat. The Raptors are trying to end that second round drought, but Paul George is coming in who in my mind is the best player in this series. He's had an incredible comeback from that gruesome leg injury. Detroit can give Cleveland some troubles because both Jackson and Drummond will have big advantages. Flip side no real matchup for LeBron. Atlanta and Boston is the battle of no star teams so it could go the distance.

I'm gonna go with a couple of upsets for today.

Pacers vs Raptors
Rockets vs Warriors
Celtics vs Hawks
Mavs vs Thunder

My hope overall is for the Thunder to lose in the first round, for free agency purposes.

Valancunias dominating on the boards early. Him and the rookie Turner battling down low.

Derozan and Lowry 4-17 so far but Raps up 45-43 at the half. I don't know about Derozan man...I really don't think he's a guy I'd want the Lakers to commit a lot of money to. We'll see though I'll give him a chance to redeem himself, it's still early.

I don't know either but at the same time I wouldn't mind him too much.

As long as the main priority is Whiteside/Horford.

Proving he's more of a secondary or third option, yeah.

Man I wish Paul George could be a Laker. Top ten player in this league. The only players I'd take over him are LeBron, Leonard, Curry, Westbrook, and Durant. He is sensational.

Raps can't stop PG right now. Now that they're sending help, he's dumping it off to the big.

Geesh, that could be a dagger

This is why Demar shouldnt be Max player. Look at the difference between PG and DD closing out the game

Paul George coming up huge. Shutting down Derozan, making great plays in the pick and roll, and his jumpshot is silkly smooth right now. He's playing like the superstar he is.

He's ideal as a secondary scorer on a contending team

Horford really? He's no different then a second or third option either plus he's older. I don't get the fascination with him. Good player, but he's definitely not better than DeRozan.

horford is better than DD imo. But give me Whiteside and Batum over Horford and DD

Oh it's over here. I was looking for one in General Basketball.

Anyway, every time I am forced to watch ABC/ESPN I am reminded how much I dislike Jalen Rose as a commentator.

Underachieving and disappointing. This is the type of team I visualize Scott with if he had the same type of talent on the roster. Perpetual mediocrity.
