what players have left their team to sign max offers (or near max) in FA in the last 20 years?

for the lakers i would count shaq as coming to us but not count malone, gp or nash as they were past their peak and it wasn't a max offer.

only other players i can think of are lebron (to miami) and then to cleveland and bosh to miami and arguable aldridge to SAS.

i guess there is also steve nash to phx, grant hill to ORL and tracy mcgrady to ORL as well. rashard lewis to ORL.

anyone know any more?

Gilbert Arenas

If you mention Shaq then you gotta add Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutomobo (and Juwan Howard for like 1 week)

I take it this includes sign and trades, since Lebron and Bosh were both sign and trades iirc? Didn't Miami give up a couple of first rounders?

Howard, he didn't want to be with the Lakers.. he even said Lakers were not in his top 3 preferred destination. Nets, Houston, Dallas. The fact the Lakers gave Kobe an extension was the icing on the cake for him.

Lebron & Bosh went ring chasing, Wade is the reason Lebron went to Miami...

Times have changed now days 'superstars' make more money off the court than they do on..

I can definitely see Durant leaving this summer, same with Derozan.

Those picks were a technicality because LBJ and Bosh were both gone. The picks helped LBJ and Bosh get an extra $5-10M on their entire contracts I think.

Including guys who did sign and trades after it was clear they were leaving as free agents:

Lebron
Chris Bosh
Chandler Parsons
Lamar Odom
Gilbert Arenas
Shaq
LaMarcus Aldridge

come to mind

Kobe's extension came months after Dwight had already bolted for Houston.

20 years? It's hard to remember all of them without looking them up. Aside from the guys already mentioned, I remember:

Antonio McDyess to Denver Nuggets
Amare Stoudemire to NY Knicks
Joe Johnson to Atlanta Hawks
Larry Hughes to Cleveland Cavs
Kenyon Martin to Denver Nuggets (S&T)
Chris Webber to Washington Bullets (S&T)
Vlade Divac to Sacramento Kings (don't think this was actually max at the time, but close, $10 mil+ per year more than a decade ago)

Really shouldn't be looking at the last 20 years. Should only be looking at how many FAs have left their teams since the CBA was revised to give home teams an advantage with the 5-year contracts vs 4-year contracts.

but for the most case they all left to go to better situations not a 17 win team.

A lot fewer if you limit the sample size down to players who left their teams since the CBA revision that gave home teams a huge financial advantage in retaining their own FAs.
