I don't think the new coach or signed star player should be the scapegoat anymore I was thinking it can be re-directed towards existing players that are just taking up space... Nick Young, Ryan Kelly, and Robert Sacre. or we can always go back to complain on Jim Buss

Why don't we make the scapegoat the fans who feel a need to look for a scapegoat even before a new coach is hired or new players are added? ... So you're it!

Jim was the scapegoat in 05-07. He was the scapegoat in 13-16. He'll be the scapegoat in 16-17 when we don't make the 2nd round. And then someone else is going to take the credit when we eventually do.

Why don't we just get a goat and call it "scapegoat?"

Byron was not a scapegoat. He was a real problem that got resolved.

Jim or Jeannie, whichever one you prefer to blame and rail against when things are not going well.

No Kobe contract either... We'll have to make a blame pie next season if we're still bottomdwellers

If the new coach gets the kids playing the right way and competing at a high level every night, there won't be a scapegoat. That will ultimately result in wins, but it will also be a process that needs to be honored. I'm not worried about early losses if we land a guy like Luke. It's more about building a foundation and establishing a winning culture from the get go. For reference, there was no process/progress with Byron Scott. He picked up right where he left of in Cleveland. The only thing he established here was the blame culture.

That being said, if the FO blows this coaching hire, it will undoubtedly fall on Jim Buss and then Mitch Kupchak. They can't screw it up this time.

Scapegoat? Byron was just a poor coach. In my opinion they should clean out the front office including Mitch. The Lakers cannot rely on their old way of doing things. Bring in a top GM who can help in the hiring of a new coach. That way they're on the same page. I believe Jim Buss needs to let go of the operation and bring in a good personnel evaluator then Jeanie can oversee operations from a financial perspective. No longer is fill in the blanks with so-so FA. The Lakers need to develop the talent they have and get rid of the rocks who presently just take up space on the bench.
