Personally they should slide in who ever Luke wants. Hopefully that will be some of the best coaches available. Just because they were a former player or former Lakers doesn't mean they can coach. Some of the best assistant coaches never coached in the NBA.

Try to go after those that are on well coached teams. Like the blazers, spurs, Mavs, Jazz, Celtics. They all have teams that are well coached as well as they play a manner of basketball that maximizes the personnel that is on the team.

We dont need to think of it in the terms of offensive and defensive coordinator we aint playing football. I would love to see a coach that preaches versatility, precision, and player development. Then hopefully offensively and defensively they could develop a scheme that suits the roster. Instead of making the roster suit the coaches established offense.

With that in mind, I like:
Becky Hammon (Spurs),
Nate Thibetts (blazers),
Casey Owens(Defenders),
Nate Bjorkgren (unemployed, last job Suns)
**Coach to work on shooting**
**coach to run through drills with**

Then throw in some player development coaches with strong personalities to push the young guys to be great that isnt a child to the coach.

That should round out the staff and most of those guy should be get-able. Especially Hammon, Owens, and Bjorkgren.

What happened to Craig Hodges? I remember he was an assistant Lakers coach that really helped our shooters.

Frank Vogel as assistant coach or defensive assistant? I think if the Pacers don't re-up him we need to jump on that immediately, overpay him and get him on a two year with his own option on a second year in case some opportunities open up for him after that first season.

Vogel will get a head coaching gig first. I doubt he lasts for an assistant position.

Vogel would have been one of my top choices for coach. I'd love to have him as an assistant to Luke, but I agree he's more likely to get another head coaching job if they don't keep him.

Being a good shooter doesn't mean you can teach it. Chip Engelland has a long history of fixing broken jumpers.

DO IT!!

there you go Jim Buss, hire the man already, if things work out wink wink, you will never have to worry about Phil coming back

Vogel's time in Indy is done, they've outgrown him for a few years. Still I say he deserves to be a HC and he will be. No way he comes to be an assistant for the Lakers

Sacramento is crazy if they don't pursue him.

what is the infatuation with Becky Hammon?... is she even any good? what can she bring to the coaching table? I would prefer Mark Jackson assisting Luke more than Becky

By all accounts she is doing a very good job at SA, according to some Pop wants her to take over when he call it quits.

according to who? did POP actually say this? or is this the media steering it? I don't know... when Phil was here he had guys in specific role for the job. what is Becky Specialty? is she an offensive guru? a defensive mastermind? is she good at motivating...what does she do exactly?

Ireland and Ramona selling Jarron Collins, that is a real possibility.

LA kid, Harvard Westlake grad. Friend of mine was a groomsmen at Jarron's wedding. Good guy, head coach in the making.

A lot of times these guys take an assistant gig for a year or two until the right job opens up. I think a guy with his credibility would be nuts to take the Sacramento job. Houston seems like a much better fit. If that doesn't work out, he'd be smart to take an assistant job somewhere, IMO.

Anything he needs to help him with the transition. I expected Collins to move up a chair in GSW, but this kind of continuity would be excellent.
