I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was at UCSB. He had no reason to be kind to me, but he was. Ever since then I have been a huge fan.

Brian is one of the kindest and most genuine people you could ever meet. I couldn't be happier to have him back in LA.

The best weapon against something like that is success (and this is coming from someone who thinks Phil is the best coach the lakers have had)

Thing is with these machiavellian/manipulative types, you never know if you're doing exactly what they want you to be doing.

I think Jeanie has played that card and her family shut her down.

Why do people think Jim has something against Phil? didnt he directly offer a consultant job to Phil?

Where do these theories come from?

Agreed on Jim. And though I generally find myself feeling Jeanie is more a culprit in the relationship issues between them she has also been singing a slightly different tune so far this summer, even with Byron's dismissal.

Great to see B Shaw back with the Lakers. Should be a really good assistant to Luke.

There was an attempt to basically rid the team of everything Phil after he retired. Some of the staff cuts I'll concede were likely due to the lockout but there was a definite "cleaning house" vibe to it. Shaw was interviewed as a courtesy and there was never any intention to even keep him employed within the organization.

Agreed. Part of that was related to ditching the tri though, and part because of the siblings rivalry and Jim cleaning out all the potential double agents. Not sure Shaw was seen as that so much as they just wanted to start fresh. But it is still nice to see him pursue and bag a guy he passed on before because his coach wants him. He's not operating from fear or politics.

Luke & BShaw are great player's coaches. Who will be the disciplinary on the staff? It almost seems too obvious at this point.

Thanks.

It could mean many things though.

Hopefully the Shaw hire + the Luke hire means that Jim and the management aren't all that arrogant against Phils close associates.

Any chance the Lakers talk to Jim Cleamons about a comeback to be apart of the staff or was he another Phil guy that got ditched?

They were Jim Buss' close associates as well.

Jim said he and Luke are friends prior to hire. They gave Luke his coaching introduction.

I think this is the interview I was referencing. Just noted that she didn't throw shade about Byron and she didn't take Cowherd's prompt to trash Jim.

Also noted Magic didn't trash Jim for letting Scott go and lauded the Walton hire.
