Butler didn't respond well to Hoiberg trying to modernize the offense. I kind of wonder if DD, after a fat contact, would have a similar reaction to a new coach trying to curb his isos.

For all the stats he puts up Whiteside still can't defend the pick and roll effectively.

A valid point.

Players don't typically change their play styles 8 years into the league.

I agree, Whiteside is just a smoke screen, who the Lakers really want is Cousins whether you like it or not. They will trade their pick to the Queens in a heartbeat along with either Clarkson, DLO or Randle for Cousins.

Clarkson doesn't have not accept any trade nor would he.

Also don't think the Lakers want to trade D'LO but I do agree Cousins is the main target.

Id' love to see Cousins in an offense like GS runs. He can grab a board and push, has point range, can pass a little bit, and can play PnR a bit.

Assuming we get the pick, Pick + Randle + 32 + Future First + Lou is probably what it takes. I'd be fine with that. Love Randle the person but business is business.

I think you're on the right track. I don't think the Lakers would trade both the pick and D'Angelo for Cousins. Last summer, Sac-town apparently wanted our #2 pick and JC and Randle. That was one premium asset and 2 decent ones. A top 2 pick would certainly be considered a premium asset, as would Russell, and now you would only get Cousins for 2 seasons instead of 3. It's just too much to give up. But one of the pick/Russell, plus Randle and the #32 and Lou feels right. And the salaries would come close to matching, meaning we'd still have $60MM or so in space.

Whoever Mitch and Luke target, an early signing will help build the right kind of momentum. Doesn't have to be a star and given the amount of cap room they can make moves without waiting on 'the' guy. Now that we have a clearer vision just make sure it's someone who supports that. Could be a trade too.

I don't think we trade for cousins, not with a first years head coach.

That's just too much of an extra headache for like to deal with

Still do not see a Cousins trade happening. He is a locker room headcase that refuses to be coached. Why would Walton want such a selfish player as the cornerstone of his team? Makes no sense to me. Cousins does not play a style I assume Walton will be teaching.

Have not read the entire thread but I would not be surprised at all to see Walton poach a couple of Warriors to help develop his systems. A couple of guys he trusts.

For example: go after RFAs Barnes and Ezeli. Maybe Speights or Livingston.

I'd like if we go after Barnes, Bazemore, Ryan Anderson and Whiteside obviously. Those players would fit Luke's system seamlessly

Atlanta did 99% of the work with Bazemore.

If he decides to stay in ATL, we can switch our focus to Fournier

Unfortunately it doesn't really work that way. The team that has the RFA player doesn't have to react until a few days after the moratorium ends
