‎@MagicJohnson
Outstanding hire by Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak to name Luke Walton as the next @Lakers coach!

‎@MagicJohnson
Luke Walton was a champion as a player and an asst. coach and he will bring that championship mindset & attitude to the @Lakers organization

I think Magic knows deep down his boy is just not a good coach. Just doesn't wanna admit it perfectly.

Probably hard to criticize Luke since he is part of the Laker family and nobody knows what he is able to accomplish yet. Think the knives would've been out if the front office had hired a re-tread.

Wasn't there a story a few days ago that Jim was sold on Luke as HC? I don't think people realize how hard it is to find the right coach. Finding players is more easier then finding the right coach.

I hope the Management got the right 1 this time.

Also I think the fact that other teams had wanted to interview and potentially hire Luke but the Lakers front office snatched him up in a hurry after the interview shows why he was desired around the league.

When you get the right one, everyone forgets about all of the wrong ones you hired. Phil jackson made everyone forget the never ending parade of coaching failures the Lakers had in the 90s

And that's the great thing about being a fan of the Lakers, we missed the playoffs only once in the 90's .. Some teams right now would love to be in that shoe right now.

Luke was the only hire that would have gotten that kinda love. Their knives would've been sharpened for Messina/Blatt/etc at the first bump in the road.

Magic is a fan, just like ourselves
The week before, when Byron Scott was fired, he tweeted:

Earvin Magic Johnson ‏@MagicJohnson
I feel bad for my friend & former teammate Byron Scott, after the Lakers decided not to retain his services.

Earvin Magic Johnson ‏@MagicJohnson
I know in my heart that Byron Scott will be back coaching in the NBA soon because he's a great coach!

He's still loyal to the Showtime Cartel, after all

You can be sure that by the end of November he'll be changing his tune unless the Lakers have the best record in the West.

His partiality aside, there is nothing wrong with his tweets.

In my meeting with D'Angelo Russell, he picked my brain about the PG position and I'm looking forward to working out with him this summer!
