Earvin Magic Johnson
Laker Nation: I had a really good lunch meeting with D'Angelo Russell!

In my meeting with D'Angelo Russell, he picked my brain about the PG position and I'm looking forward to working out with him this summer!

Now so far we have..

Magic - Russell for PG purposes

Next, we need some of the Showtime Cartel to come in and mentor some of the rest of the guys...

Worthy - Randle for post moves and quick spins.
Cooper - Clarkson to show him how to play damn defense...

Hmmm, no need for Byron, Rambis...

Although we really don't have a center Kareem can work with yet

This is great. A year around Kobe, whether he mentored him at all or not, but just being around him had to be beneficial. And now Magic is gonna teach him a thing or 2 on the court and mentor him off it, amazing. Kid has the tools to be great, and he has the resources. And Luke did a lot with no athleticism just fundamentals, so he should be a great mentor. Oh, and even Scott taught him something: to have a tough skin. D Lo has a very bright future!

Good news indeed. Magic would be a great mentor to have for DLo. I'm glad to see they are talking. Looking forward to this new phase in Laker Land.

How come I have a feeling that Kobe told him to search out Magic.

Seems like something Kobe would've suggested to him since Kobe was very big ok seeking advice/help from guys that came before him.

If DLo listens and learns well, he'll be a perennial all-star in just a few short years.

Kobe and Magic weren't that close, but you never know: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15193525/kobe-bryant-personal-mount-rushmore-mentors-starring-michael-jackson

First comes Magic Johnson, part-owner of the Lakers and a man whose cellphone mailbox proves perpetually full. For whatever reason, Kobe says, "I had trouble getting to him."

But in the winter of 2009, with the Lakers coming off a crushing Finals loss to the Celtics the previous season, Bryant arrives three hours early at the practice facility and discovers Magic sitting in the breakfast room. The two sit together, alone, for two hours, Kobe chastising Magic for being critical about him in the press, Magic challenging Kobe to use his influence in the community.

"It was a breakthrough moment for us," Magic says. "At the time, Kobe was saying, 'I'm going to do my job, then I'm out.' I told him, 'No, you have to be more than that.' I said, 'What do you want your legacy to look like? It can't just be about winning championships and killing everybody.'"

Kobe listens, then counters. "My personality is more in line with Michael's than yours.'"

I'm saying more along the lines Kobe suggested for D'Angelo to seek out a player like Magic, since both are taller PG's, both are Lakers. No one better to learn the PG position for the Lakers than Magic. Just like Kobe seeked out MJ rather than Magic cause he saw himself more along the lines of an MJ type player.

Kobe was an allstar before he was starting on his own team. It's more about the votes

Great news, just a question, has Magic ever mentored or trained with any other Laker players before?

Back then it wasn't a fan vote to be all-star. There was also only 3 games in the first round of the playoff's believe it or not

Roy did work out with Kareem.

I'm happy Magic is on board now ready to mentor Russell and be a positive contributor to our team instead of whining about Jim Buss and trying to get him fired by his sister. This is a step in the right direction, props to magic for putting his pride aside and doing what's best for the franchise that he loves

Seen the same thing before with Coward and Kareem. I'll reserve judgement for now.

I'm assuming Simmons would play the Draymond role. Wouldn't hurt for Magic to mentor both of them.

Byron, Rambis, fisher, and Brian shaw.

That would be either one disastrous coaching team or a great one for the right team
