I'm so pissed that the Spurs got Aldridge. i was very surprised that not much of a stink was made during the regular season about it...since everyone was busy overhyping Curry and the Warriors. But we're seeing why this guy is so valuable. he's a big guy, for one! and he's really effective. He's going to be great for them for a long time. damn it. |

Basketball gods. Forgive me for saying this.
But I hope the Spurs crash and burn somehow. I am not wishing for injuries. But if some type of mental collapse or fatigue or some sort of internal scandal that cripples that organization.

Yeah, LMA is looking like the best player on the Spurs in these playoffs, which says a lot since I think very highly of Kawhi.
What a coup. It brings to mind how LMA said he was impressed by how Pop and the analytics crew made a vision for how he'd be used. Clearly that vision is coming to fruition, and LMA has never looked so good or efficient. |

in all fairness, no matter how good of a pitch we could have gave him, we never had much a chance to begin with.
We faced a huge disadvantage where the best teams in the league had the salary room to sign on a top free agent so why would any good player join a weaker team when they can make just as much while contending for a championship. |

Meanwhile Lebron gets to coast against the Pistons, Hawks, and probably Miami.

It's comical. Makes me think there's no way Derozan leaves Toronto and I see KD forcing his way East. It's a cakewalk to the finals every year. What a joke. Portland would probably win the EAST. |

This. Unless he plans to sign with GS or SA, he would be stupid to sign with a team in the West. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

me too.
it all hinges on kawhi and aldridge. they are the core for the next several years. To me, Aldridge is a legit big man. They won't lose a step from Duncan there. Kawhi is the question mark, how good is he really? I do believe he is overhyped right now, and I am watching his playoff performances now closely to see.
but in a sense, if you think about the late 90s when the shaq/kobe era started and the duncan era started, the two teams are very similar in reverse roles now. in that decade, the spurs tanked and eventually built their fake dynasty with duncan as the tank piece. Now, the Lakers have tanked and gotten some decent players. Also similar is the kobe/shaq coup coming while the spurs were tanking. the spurs got their golden star in aldridge while the lakers were tanking.
the difference is kobe, shaq, duncan defined a decade. is russell, randle, + 2016, kawhi, aldridge going to define a decade? hard to imagine that being the case. |

Aldridge never has nor ever will come close to impacting the defense the way that Duncan does. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit) |

I am not sure how you figure they are a "fake" dynasty. The Spurs have more or less been a contending team every single year since getting Duncan. Five titles, like 20 consecutive playoff appearances, never getting bounced in the first round....yeah, pretty much textbook dynasty. That's staying power.
I gather that you have some bitterness over them tanking to get Duncan. The rules are the rules; disadvantaging yourself because a rule has perverse incentives is a fool's errand. |

FYI, the Spurs were bounced in the first round last year. And I think they were also eliminated in the first round 2x or 3x previously in the Duncan era, too. |

And I would say it more the 80s. By the time the 90s rolled around, there was a lot of parity on both sides. In the latter half of the 90s, the West slowly dominated. In 1997-98 for instance, the West had THREE 60+ win teams and two more teams that won 56. That's ridiculous. |

Aldridge could have gone anywhere he wanted to. He chose SA for 3 reasons, FO and Popovich and a very good chance to get a ring. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

40 year old Duncan? I think Aldridge is doing a mighty fine job defensively.
Or do you think it's a coincidence that the year Aldridge left for San Antonio they turned into a historically great defense?
It's not all on the guy who played <50% of total minutes. |

Just goes to show you how important coaching is. The guy has never been a defender. Now he hustles his ass off on defense and is finally making use of that length. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts! |

LaMarcus Aldridge 19,689,000
Tim Duncan $5,250,000
