Because he's cocky but pretends to be humble.

Let's not forget with all his abilities, he's also a media darling. He's the face of the league currently and the league is loving it.

Hickman had an agenda. He knew he'd draw attention to himself by voting for Iverson, costing Shaq a deserved unanimous MVP distinction.

He would have a neurological disorder if he wasn't at least a little cocky. And if being cocky while pretending to be humble is your line in the sand you are disqualified from being a fan of Kobe Bryant.

I never saw Kobe even try to pretend to be humble.

Can you believe that the back-to-back MVP has the 54th highest contract in the NBA?

Luminaries like Nene, Hibbert, Carroll tower over him. What a bargain.

Eventually he's gonna get paid and rightfully so. Dude led the league in steals while leading the league in scoring and going 50/40/90. Lol. Dude shot 50% from the field and made 402 3s.

That's crazy.

"It was crazy," Hickman told Tomasson. "I got death threats."

"Most valuable" is a subjective term. Should the award go to the most outstanding player in the league or the one who means the most to his specific team?

"I certainly didn't mean to be the lone one," said Hickman. "I picked the guy who was the most valuable to his team. Philadelphia without Iverson was a CBA team, and if the Lakers didn't have Shaq, they would have still been a pretty good team."

I could see his point but Shaquille should have been the first in 2000. Crazy and dominating year he had. 67 win team. Great numbers. Hickman will forever be remembered for that.

I don't like curry but only for the reason that he's not on the lakers. Just like I never liked Jordan, Pippen, Stockton, etc. People who, I guess, I "should've" liked. I never even liked Grant Hill and I'm sure he was one of the nicest guys in the league

Must've confused him with Lebron, who is the KING of telling everyone how humble he is.

Man you all should go check out the Cavs message board. I have never seen a fan base so extremely envious/obsessed with another team and player in my life. They are so insanely bitter that they don't have the best player in the league.

They'll be even more bitter come mid June when they get smashed in the NBA Finals....

He had early career injuries so he decided to sign that underpaid contract which at the time he signed because he wasn't where his career was going. It was strictly a financial security decision. Looks like a bargain now since he's the 5th highest paid player on his team. No doubt he'll get paid on his next contract. Also Nike lost big losing him to Under Armour.

Mark Jackson said he didn't think Curry would make it in the NBA, thought he was to small.
Let's be real here, no one thought Curry was going to be "best player in the league" good. Back 2 back MVPs with a chip to boot? He's a baby face killer.

I take what Mark says about Curry and the Warriors with a grain of salt. He may be masking his hurt for being let go.

He also said Curry is hurting the game. From what I skimmed he's saying kids are not learning the basics, they're just shooting 3's.
so I guess handles, being able to finish with both hands, foot work and god like shooting ability is not basics. Guy has great fundamentals. Most all time greats have their fundamentals on lock.

Most kids only see the 3s and the bad shot selection though(not saying they are bad shots for him). Saying Steph is hurting the youth game isn't completely off base. I don't agree with it but it has some merit to it.

There has not ever been an MVP in recent history that hasn't been cocky. I'm not sure how you can be better than 300 or so of the most competitive men on the planet--and not just better but like orders of magnitude better--without being cocky. If he wasn't cocky, he'd never have thought to start launching shots from half court. If he wasn't cocky, he'd have folded last night. If he wasn't cocky, they don't win 73 games.

Almost to the last man, MVPs are dicks. Like maybe Nash (who shouldn't have gotten them in the first place...) isn't a dick. But he's Canadian, so they're practically a different species. And I guess Duncan, but Crawford obviously thought Timmy was kind of a prick. But Kobe, Shaq, Jordan, Iverson, Lebron, KG, Curry, Durant, Barkley, and yes, even Magic and Bird....cocky, ever last one. Almost to the point of being unbearable in several cases.

It's just really rare to find someone at the top of their profession and you say to yourself, gee, that person is really humble and nice.

Insofar as Curry is concerned, he strikes me as someone who turns it on during the games and is probably wired a little weird. He probably is genuinely nice around his family--like Kobe. And he probably is a little humble--off the court. I'm sure where he is at now in his career surpasses whatever he imagined as a kid and he probably is truly grateful for his success. But if he wants to continue that success, he had better damn well be ready to go into assassin mode when he steps on the court.

I think a few guys deserved it:

Lebron in 2013
Shaq in 2000
Jordon in 1996
Bird in 1986

Good to see Curry didn't get screwed like Shaq did. I guess nobody wanted to be the next Fred Hickman. I still don't like who votes for these things. The Rockets play by play guy voted James Harden 3rd over Lebron, Kawhi and CP3. If you are going to have the media vote for this why include people that are being paid by NBA franchises?
