Hopefully Clarkson takes this as a slight and it motivates him that much more. Clarkson has all-star potential, if he can learn to get back to a more balanced game and become the kind of defender his length/quickness/size projects him to be.
Seriously- he has the tools to be a very good defender. I am shocked that Byron was not able to motivate him to play D.
Guess between Lavine, Booker, DLo, JC, Marcus smart... JC is the odd man out. Prob trying to have as many representative from different teams
Clarkson made 1st team all rookie over Lavine and Smart. He wanted to play for the Philippines for his mom.
This is prob the most likely explanation
Yup, it's been well know for awhile that JC wants to play for the Philippines. He needs his first big NBA contract first before he can risk the injury.
But congrats to Don Julio and DLO!!
Really excited for them as this can only improve their games!! Compete as hard as you can fellas!! And soak it in!

I agree about him being an all star, but Clarkson wanted to play for the Philippines. That's where his mom and family were born. They had to go through some things with FIBA.
I live in Eagle Rock, JC is a big deal here. It is really cool that he is playing for the Philippines, that country has been through a lot the last several years with the Typhoons. From what I have been told by my neighbors, the Lakers are huge there because there is such a large expat community in LA.
His work ethic is off the charts. You don't get drafted 46th and make 1st team all rookie without having great potential. I'm expecting a breakout 3rd year for Clarkson in Walton's ball movement system.
I wonder who was behind this selection and I wonder if the Lakers had any influence in this. It's an amazing opportunity for them. I remember when Kyrie was talking trash to Kobe about beating him one on one. I'm sure he learned plenty from being around that great team.

Only on LG do we have to go all in on JC on a thread that is about DLO/Randle?
Congrats to both.
I know JC will proudly rep the Philippines too.
To be fair, kinda surprising JC didn't make it. Now we know why
But did he want to play for the Philippines because he knew he wouldn't make the U.S. squad? j/k
Well, even if that is the reason why, I still hope he sees his teammates' successes and uses that as motivation for himself. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Clarkson has been talking about playing for the Philippines for well over a year. He was going to play for them last summer, but there were some timing issues.
Now can we please get back to talking about the team that matters?

I was actually talking about those who were intimating that JC was excluded from the US team b/c he wasn't good enough.
I was actually trying to enlighten the situation as some didn't know he was participating with the Philippine's team. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Proceeds to bench Russell and Randle to teach them a lesson in humility
And he'll get the USA select team the #1 draft pick next summer

Nicely! I think just being around superstars at their peaks will do them a great deal of good.
Envy, jealousy, inspiration whatever, take your pick. I hope the experience sparks a fire in them and they leave hungry
Agree this is a huge milestone in development for them and the Lakers. Hopefully both come away from the experience with an increased sense of leadership for the team. "It is their team, lead it"
Maybe this will slow down some of the constant suggestions to trade them.

Clarkson is a slasher. He can be potentially be great in that role. The problem is he doesn't think the game at a high level and is an average to below average defender. Hence all the 1-1 stuff and lack of ball movement when he gets the ball in his hands. He needs to learn some of the nuances of the game.

Does anyone know who the coaches for the select team will be?
I know Coach K, Pop and PJ will coach the mens national team. I hope it somone like Doc Rivers, Rick Carlisle, Steve Kerr, or Eric Spolstra. Somone with a back ground on winning teams. If the bring in someone like Brent Brown (Philly) with a losing record or a has been like Mike Brown I will be pissed. _________________ Darvin Ham is an idiot!
